Internal thermostat broken

Anyone else not have hot flushes (momentary panic stricken boiling alive sensation) & just an inability to deal with heat any more?

The past 6 months or so I just get so fantastically warm & clammy. To the point of grabbing a plant mister & role-playing a maidenhair fern?

I'm running the gamut of peri symptoms (am 45), periods starting to change, still regular but I've just had my copper coil out (it's made me anaemic) so we'll see what happens there. Bloods all fine (inc thyroid) but for a lack of iron.

I'm just hot AF (& I stg someone is going to find DH's body in the bin if I hear 'yes you are 😜' one more time) (in pieces) (possibly BBQ'd).

My job has me getting incredibly warm anyway (not unusual to be working in ~40°c) & that's become unbearable too.

But not 'flushes'. I'm just broken. Anyone else get this rather than the standard flush?

I was going to suggest thyroid but see you have had it checked. I felt like I was on fire with an overactive thyroid. Never felt heat or rage like it.

Yep. I found moderate relief by necking a glass of water every time the inferno flush kicked off. Broken thermostat is exactly what it is. Had to change my sheets every 2 days, sometimes every day, because it was like some hobo had been sleeping in the bed. And I hate to tell you this but with me it went on for 14 years.

GP checked the levels twice, smack in the middle of the range both times. Was kinda disappointed cos at least I could have been treated 😭

14yrs.

  1. Years.

No absolutely not. I'll accept one more month, max, of this.

I really feel the heat. Always have run warmer but I'm now the one in short sleeves in winter. As you say, no flushes just warm all the time

'Mid range' thyroid results could mean a variety of things depending on what's being tested and if you're on treatment or not. Do you have your results and lab ranges?

smokingcarriageonly · 07/09/2023 15:30

And you have all my sympathy, I'm never cold now.
Have you considered HRT?

It was 2.32 both times & range is 0.35 to 4.94 on these results. No flags on my bloods at all but for the anaemia.

Would have been nice to blame my weight gain on my thyroid too. But I suspect it's cake related

Re HRT - first GP was hesitant to suggest & wanted to test thyroid in case that was an issue. 2nd GP didn't talk HRT cos we were on the anaemia (waiting on an iron infusion now) - but she was deeply unimpressed that I'd mentioned my crazy heavy periods multiple times & nothing got done. Suspect she'll be the one to see if I do want to do it.

Atm, need to get the iron sorted cos my anxiety is bad & sertraline not working as well. If that doesn't improve after the iron infusion then I'll look at HRT for my mental health for sure

*edited transfusion to infusion
