Evorel patches suddenly irritating skin? (Pic)

I’ve been using them for about a year with no issues whatsoever and suddenly they have started making my skin react. It’s a new box, do you think they might have altered the formula?

Anyone else had this?

Yes, not every time though oddly. It doesn't hurt and fades after a few days. I'm coming up to requesting a new prescription and was going to see if I can change back to estradot, although they are apparently out of stock in a lot of places.

YogaIsMyCalm · 07/09/2023 10:06

I used evorel conti patches and they were fine for a while but latterly they made my skin very irritated to the point that it was sore and itchy.

I found them good at first in controlling symptoms but after about 6 or 7 months i started getting random issues and tests showed that I wasn't absorbing them well.

I'm not entirely sure whether the skin reaction and not absorbing were related, possibly. Do you still find them good for your symptoms?

WhatapityWapiti · 07/09/2023 10:08

Interesting. I have been feeling more brain foggy than usual recently, had just put it down to lack of routine over summer hols. It’s still helping other stuff like the heart palpitations I was having though.

It's been really hot where I am in UK. Just wondering whether the heat could have caused the reaction.

Evenstar · 07/09/2023 10:37

I had to stop using them due to this, the skin irritation became worse and it started to go bright red and weep fluid for several days after the patch was removed. I do have a history of eczema though.

MissingMoominMamma · 07/09/2023 10:38

Mine keep losing their stickiness and coming off. I think something has changed.

DwightShrute · 07/09/2023 10:42

My last box kept falling off too and the ones that did stay on gave me a rash. Im not sure if it was a bad batch or maybe my sweaty bum the heat was causing it.

Stroopwaffels · 07/09/2023 11:41

Yes! Absolutely fine for about a year and then reacted in just the same way. I think it’s the glue rather then the active ingredient as I react in the same way to plasters

Helenahandkart · 07/09/2023 12:06

I had to use these patches during ivf and had a similar reaction. Switched to a different patch and no reaction.
However, 10 years later, I now get an itchy rash in the places I used to wear the patches. It’s so bad in summer that I can’t wear underwear anymore, and can only wear cotton cycling shorts. The GP said my skin had been sensitised by the patches and now seems to react to any fabric containing elastic or artificial fibres.

changedusername190 · 07/09/2023 19:51

same rash here

FishFlaked · 13/09/2023 12:59

I have exactly the same skin reaction as you OP. Incredibly painful to remove Evorel patches as you OP, and taking them off literally rips the top layer of skin off. Those red spots then get infected occasionally which is painful and has left scars.
It’s doing my head in because Estradot are fine for me but there’s a massive shortage. I don’t think absorption can be good if your skin is massively irritated by the crinkly massive crisp packet stuck to your skin.

Monstermunchy · 20/09/2023 22:19

Same here - Estradot were always fine and Evorel were till last week. I now have a very angry looking patch on my buttock - how odd!

Alltheusernamesaretakennow · 21/09/2023 11:18

I usually put a bit of Nivea on after removing Evorel patches, as that seems to help the redness.

AnneKipankitoo · 24/04/2024 16:02

I have just had this today. My skin looks just like yours @@WhatapityWapiti . It was the first one out of a new box and I had applied it on Saturday.
Did yours resolve @WhatapityWapiti ?

I have been using them for years and not had a problem.

Itsalwaysthelasttime · 24/04/2024 16:12

Me too but they have been arriving in a different box a generic one rather than a branded one.
So I wonder if something has changed.

LolliesInTheSun · 24/04/2024 16:15

This happened to me, too. No issues for 6 months and then started to burn and itch. I had to swap to the gel instead and have had no issues with that so far.

AnneKipankitoo · 24/04/2024 16:16

Mine are in the normal box.
I had them in a different box when I asked for the wrong amount.
I think they come in 8 or 24.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 24/04/2024 16:19

I use these, and the only time I've had reactions is when I've applied them to not quite dry skin. By that, I mean still ever so slightly damp from the shower (or from wiping away previous sticky residue with a baby wipe)

canyouletthedogoutplease · 24/04/2024 16:30

I had thought it was just me! Fine for about three years then suddenly leaving a rash, for the last few weeks. Also have been feeling like maybe they're not working as well, I'm going to ask to swap to the gel, they must have changed something.

AnneKipankitoo · 24/04/2024 18:50

Oh God no@canyouletthedogoutplease ! I could not bear to have my symptoms back.

CC48 · 05/02/2025 13:20

Hi
I have just started Evorel at end of Dec
My skin is in a terrible state and I struggle to get each patch off

I really want gels and mini pill but my GP wouldn't give me them together 😢

Stroopwaffels · 06/02/2025 08:40

If anyone has solved the Evorel itch problem I'd love to hear your solution. I have been happily on Estradot for 18 months but there are horrendous supply problems and the pharmacy keeps substituting with Evorel. I am down to my last few weeks and if supply doesn;t start to come through soon I am going to have to try to manage with the Evorel as doing without is a worse option.

Does taking Piriton help?
