HRT & acne

Does anyone have any experience of HRT causing acne to flair up again?

I have suffered with moderate acne on and off throughout my adult life. I’m 55 and get hardly any spots these days although am still careful with my skin. I haven’t had a period for 18 months and am suffering with hot flushes, night sweats and tiredness / trouble concentrating but am worried that HRT will upset my skin.

Anyone have any experience they can share?

I had acne when I was younger and have had generally greasy/spotty/"bad" skin my whole adult life. I think, if anything, HRT has improved my skin. It certainly hasn't made it worse.

That’s encouraging - thanks for sharing. I think people who haven’t struggled with their skin might not understand but I’d rather struggle through with the hot flushes than go back to being spotty all the time.

Do you mind me asking what HRT you use @WhereAreWeNow ?

I do understand @Paintedocean . Acne really does leave emotional scars as well as physical!
I'm using estrogen patches and the Mirena coil. I was worried about the coil because I know some women have reported acne as a side effect. It's been good for me though.
It's worth looking at the androgenic effects of different types of progesterone. I'm not an expert but I think that's where the link to acne is. Some progesterones are more androgenic than others. I think the more androgenic it is, the more likely it is to cause acne. Having said that, the progesterone in the Mirena coil is androgenic and it hasn't caused problems for me. Perhaps because it's low dose and localised.

That’s really useful @WhereAreWeNow thank you for taking the time to reply.
