Do you take your Utrogestan for 25 days then have a break?

Or do you take it 12 days on and 12 days off?

I've been doing 25, but dr said I can change it if I want to. I'm also moving from gel to patches.

Did the patches work better for you?

I started out doing 25 days, break for 3. Then my GP changed it to 14 on 14 off.
Since changing it I have regular 28 day cycles. Previously they were a bit random.

Sorry to jump on. Have just started HRT and due to take 14 days of uterogestan in about 10 days time. When should I expect a bleed? Is it usually when you start it or when you finish it? I'm wondering whether there are times when you can continue to take it for another cycle to prevent a period for a holiday/special occasion?

You are meant to have a withdrawal bleed a few days after you have finished however I always start to bleed around day 8 and I have read other women having the same. I think as long as you are bleeding at some point it is OK. Also you can take it for another cycle to prevent a period as a one off.

I am still having periods so now worried I have the wrong advice? They are 100mg tablets and it just says take one at night....

SoftPillowAllNight · 06/09/2023 08:33

I take 2 for 12-14 days then have my period within 48 hours. I wait another 14 days then start again.

If you're still having periods you should take 2 for 12 days each month a.k.a. sequential HRT.

Ibizafun · 06/09/2023 11:25

I take 2 Utrogestan every single night as a sedative.. puts me to sleep

cleowasmycat · 06/09/2023 13:33

I have an contraceptives implant so have no idea if I still have periods. My GP said I could take one a night rather than 2 a night alternate 2 weeks and I was feeling so groggy on 2 a night.

Just to reassure you, I have just been to see my GP for a review and she said the only reason they don't usually start people on once a day is because it can make their periods very erratic. I don't think you need to worry x

If you are still having periods when you start utrogestan you should take 2 tablets at night for 12-14 days, either start on the the same date each month like 1st Nov and then first Dec ot 2 weeks on and 2 weeks. You will
Have a withdrawal bleed. If you have not had a period for over 12 months so menopausal you take one a night every day.
