Shock period after 5 years!

My last period was around five years ago.
Age 56, on HRT about 7 years.
Healthy weight, BMI 20/21.
I'm due a gynae check-up anyway but this has given me a shock.
Feel ok otherwise but experiencing period pain after all this time is not pleasant!

Christ. That really is the absolute pits. I assume you have long ago got rid of all your sanpro etc? Ugh, much sympathy.

I had this and it was a polyp, it was just like a period, it hasn’t happened again since it was removed.

Hi OP, I don’t want to be a doom monger but bleeding after menopause can have some nefarious connotations. It can be a symptom of ovarian cancer. Well worth speaking to your GP about it

When is the gynae check? If in the next couple of weeks or so then absolutely make sure you mention this then, as a matter of urgency.

If it isn't for a while then get an urgent GP appointment and ask for a referral to gynaecology under the 2 week pathway.

Post menopausal bleeding can be a sign of cancer and must be investigated promptly. It might not be, of course, but it isn't normal and it isn't a chance you should take.

Sorry if that is scary. I hope all is well and that you are seen quickly.

Thank you for the replies.
Yes, I will definitely get checked out!

@tribpot indeed! Thankfully I found a few ancient liners at the back of a drawer!

Just a quick update:

Saw my gynae today and had an ultrasound and smear.
She saw nothing of concern.
I admitted that my approach to HRT is very slapdash and she thinks this is linked to the bleed. Haven't had another since.
So, I will try to be disciplined from now on.
Will see her again in 3 months just to be sure.
Phew. Great relief.

Okay that's good news. Hopefully the ultrasound and smear come back all clear.
