Menopause and Sex

I'm 54 and going through the menopause. Sex seems to be a whole new ball game, pun intended.

I'm on HRT and use lube and sex is painful when my partner first penetrates.

Anyone experienced painful sex or found anything that helps?

Have you got internal oestrogen as well as the systemic HRT? - Ovestin or Vagifem? that really helps. Having said that I think a lot of women really struggle with sex physically and mentally around and after menopause. Testosterone helps in some cases as well.

I've used Overstin before but my GP said I wouldn't need it with the HRT patches. I didn't realise you could use both. Thanks

You can absolutely use both. Many doctors etc don’t know this. I am under a menopause specialist in the nhs and also seen someone at Newson health before. Both agreed it’s fine to use Ovestin as well as full HRT. Hope it helps.

Wow you SO need to use both.

I reconmend listening to Dr Kelly Casperson and American uro-gynae who is evangelical about sex in menopause and use of topical oestrogen cream.

She has a series of podcasts which are excellent.

I will definitely listen to that podcast. Thanks so much and definitely agree with your username Grin
