Holiday and Perimenopause !!

I am going abroad next month on a beach holiday ! I'm on HRT patches (Evorel Sequi) and wondered how other ladies have coped with them on holiday in a hot environment, about 25 to 30 degrees in the daytime and going swimming/in the sea/maybe showering more than normal.

I currently stick them on the top of thighs or side of, changing area and side each time but they tend to end up with black or blue ring around the edges from my clothing.

I'm also surprised by how peri has changed my packing. I now have to pack:

High blood pressure pills
Painkillers, migraine meds, forehead strips as I started suffering from bad headaches and migraine during peri.

Then there's the digestive issues; my flaming bowels are so annoying right now. Constipation, then another time I'm running to the nearest loo, I get bad wind from some foods, can eat same foods another time and nothing. I get mucus (TMI I know) from the back end sometimes. I get bloating. I'll taking peppermint tea with me, wind relief tablets, anti poop tablets, Rennies as I get more heart burn now.

As for periods/HRT bleeds, christ knows what happening there.

I'm almost not looking forward to my holiday. Its the first one abroad since 2017 as well.

I feel quite miserable at the time and anxious about the holiday abroad. More looking forward to 3 days at Blackpool in October ..

Just wanted to rant as my hubby is not aware of how peri has affected me at all...

Would it be possible to change to gel I found it far easier than patches. I put mine on in the evening and was advised to by menopause specialist I switched just before a holiday and she said put it on at nighttime so the suncream doesn’t effect the absorption of gel.

I really like that idea thanks but getting a Dr's appointment is an absolute nightmare! I've not long had an HRT meds review. I don't think they'd change it because I hate the messy residue 😕

I don't want to add to your packing list but Symprove is really good for helping with digestive issues. It has really helped me.

I put mine on the flat part of my bottom/ lower back so underneath bikini bottoms. I've never lost a patch in heat/ swimming even in Barbados humidity swimming every half hour!

You can warm the patch or skin slightly with a hairdryer and hold it down for 30 seconds to make it stick better.

Modi Bodi do period bikini bottoms.

Peri/ menopause is the devil's work.

Thanks all. I'll try sticking the patch on my backside. There's enough surface area there 😂 I've thought of Symprove but so pricy

Your symptom list sounds like HRT side effects!

Is it actually helping and reliving the symptoms you had before?

I'm also away in a few weeks and actually dreading it and wishing I hadn't booked for similar reasons.

Strongbeatsskinny · 31/08/2023 22:22

Try alcohol wipes toget the residue off and to dry the skin before applying a new patch

The actual patch was the least of my woes in a Florida this year, the two week heavy period that started the day after we arrived and finished the day after we got back was the utter pits though! Then I had the next one 2 weeks after that. I hate the peri-menopause.

I wish but the digestive issues and head issues started in late 2014. Irregular periods before that although never long or heavy. I didn't start the patches until Sept 2021 when other symptoms kicked in.

Oh you poor thing, it's a hell of a time isn't it.

I'm off in 3 weeks to a hot country and currently battling night sweats, no sleep, itching, bleeding gums, itchy scalp... digestive issues, weight gain...

The list is just endless like yours.

I hope you do manage to enjoy your break!
