Replacement for Tostran

SingingKlingon · 18/08/2023 10:21

Tostran is completely out of stock where I am and even online.

What are your GP's giving you for testosterone instead?

I feel a bit panicked about running out. My libido, brain fog and energy are just amazing!

I genuinely feel it affects my mood positively too but that could be psychosomatic!!

But I suppose if you're getting great sex, you're feeling fit and healthy it would affect your mood eh?

Haven't had tostran - my prescription is Testogel

I think very similar but need to check strength/dosage

SingingKlingon · 18/08/2023 15:05

Testogel comes in a sachet, with the recommended dose being 5g of gel (50mg of testosterone), which should be applied once daily on the arms, shoulders, or stomach. The recommended dose of Tostran Gel is 3g of gel (60mg of testosterone) which should be rubbed daily onto the abdomen or the inside of each thigh.

Thank you so much!! And you have no problem getting it?

I wasn’t able to get Tostran either and have been happily using it for 3 years. In the end I had a prescription that had every single testosterone product on it with the hope that one would be in stock.

I ended up getting Testogel but the pump version and it’s 20mg testosterone per pump. So that’s 4 days worth!

I’ve got a small screw top pot and put one pump into it and use it over 4 days. It’s not ideal from a dosing perspective and I much preferred Tostran for that reason.

Here is a guide to how much testosterone is in the different products.

Thanks @PortiaWithNoBreaks but that's out of stock as well!!

What a 'mare!!

Looks like I'm going have to wait 6 years for a telephone appointment and ask GP to do what yours did and give me a prescription for a whole range of testosterone to get one in stock!!

Where is everyone getting theirs from? Locally or online?

@SingingKlingon I got mine from a local independent pharmacy but they have a reputation for being good for all HRT matters. They’re quite good at knowing what’s coming into stock so they’re always my first port of call. Not sure whereabouts you are but I can PM you details if you’re in the south east/north Surrey area.

Amongst friends we all seem to have the best chance of getting scripts filled at independent pharmacies. That said, I’ve heard that Asda pharmacies are good and also somewhere called The French Pharmacy in London.

I was a bit annoyed at not getting Tostran but now I’ve got this mega strength pump bottle of Testogel it’ll last a long time until having to go through this rigmarole again.

Ah, I've been checking with Boots online. I normally get my prescriptions from Pharmacy2U, saves me having to deal with GP!

But they can't get Tostran anymore.

I try the 2 suggested above and see if I can get either of them.

Thanks ladies.

I use testogel, have been using it for 2 weeks, no positive signs yet but I'm hopeful!

I get mine from my doctors, which is also a prescribing pharmacy.

They always have the HRT in stock.

Sadilicious · 19/08/2023 12:20

I got my Testrogel through the hospital pharmacy, and will go to my independent pharmacy when I need a new prescription. I must say I love it so far. I've only been taking it for a week and my brain fog is gone, I have loads of energy and I also have my libido back. I also don't feel anxious or continually fretting either, but the consultant did increase me from three to four pumps of Oestrogel so it could be that too.
I also feel a lot more confident and focused at work - amazing stuff.

I had my first dose of testosterone gel yesterday & I feel a bit odd

I'm supposed to take it every 3 days - but I'm wondering if 1/3rd daily might be better for me

How 'odd'? I felt a bit buzzy, is it like that?
Your idea of a third of a dose each day sounds sensible, can you ask your doctor?

Runaround50 · 19/08/2023 12:32

Crikey, if better get taking my tostron regularly! I keep forgetting to use it.

It sounds cracking stuff!

KatyMac · 19/08/2023 14:20

Yes a bit buzzy & my heart is racing a bit; I'm a bit confused too

The GP is somewhere between disinterested and against refining my hrt so it works for me; so I'll do some research and see what I can work out

Nonnjo · 22/08/2023 13:42

I have a low libido and axvery low testosterone level. I am 63 and feeling I’m running out of time for an active, enjoyable sex life
I have been prescribed Tostran which doesn’t seem to be available anywhere, I am uneasy about dividing a tube of gel to get the correct amount and I want to take something bio-identical HELP!!!!!!!!!!

KatyMac · 22/08/2023 18:43

Testogel is easier to get hold of, I think

I should have applied mine yesterday but I was driving this morning and I thought it better to delay

I pumped my dose into a syringe and applied a third of it - let's see how it goes tomorrow

The pump should be 1.25 mg but it was about 9 lines on my syringe so I applied 3 lines - fingers crossed - I'm guessing mL and mg are different because of the density

Joannexmas1979 · 02/10/2024 12:11

Hi Ladies,

I realise this post was some time ago, I have recently been given Tostran 2% , are you ladies able to get it again in your area? And how often do you take ?

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 02/10/2024 12:26

I stayed on the testogel pump bottle - over time, I've got used to a half pump applied alternate days rather than trying to split a pump - I go by eye rather than measure.

I tried dispensing into a syringe but it was really messy.

It seems to be working ok - no excessive hair growth etc and it is helping with symptoms as expected.

Nonnjo · 02/10/2024 15:36

I’ve been on Tostran for over a year and recently got a repeat prescription through GP no problem. I use it Tuesdays and Saturdays - I small pump - less than a pea (when I replace my Evorel 50 patch. Seems to be doing the job - good sex drive, no excessive body hair, no voice changes and no weight gain - very pleased with it so far
