Urgent appointment?

Am 53, been on HRT for 3 years now. No periods for over a year.

This morning there was blood in my knickers & when I wiped and there has been a dark brown discharge all day when I wipe after going to the toilet. I feel a bit like I used to when I was having periods - bloated, unsettled stomach & also a bit PMTish (or narky as my family might call it!)

I know I need to see the GP, but not sure if I should ask for an urgent appointment or wait for a routine one to be available (which at my GP surgery will probably be around 3 weeks). Doesn't feel like an emergency, but I know 2 people who have been diagnosed with endometrial cancer in the last 2 years & this is how it started...

WWYD?

Unexplained bleeding I think is supposed to be a 2 week referral for an ultrasound to check for possible reasons why. Mine wasn’t treated like that but I’m not menopauseal but peri and it turned out to be a large fibroid that has since been removed. I would ask the receptionist but I’d go urgent tbh. as wait times for scans can be weeks\months otherwise

I'd ask for an emergency appointment. You'll be put on the 2-week wait for a scan.

Well I got through to the GP surgery after being on hold for 40 mins, and had missed out on an appointment for today. Am seeing an advanced nurse practitioner on Monday afternoon, I imagine she will refer me on.

DH is currently going through something similar (not vaginal bleeding obv!) and the speed in which they have dealt with him has been impressive - within 10 days of seeing the nurse practitioner and providing samples / bloods he was at the hospital seeing the consultant, and is booked in for colonoscopy and endoscopy before the end of the month (within 3 weeks of first appointment). I'm hoping I'm dealt with with the same urgency.

Fingers crossed it's all OK for both of us 🙏
