All my joints ache - will hrt help?

My hips (& other joints) are in agony first thing in the morning and after I've been sat still for more than an hour.
I've heard that hrt can help? I'm 50 but still have regular periods.

The thing that helps me is mobility exercises 3 x a week. Just 10-20 minutes. If I miss a session I really feel it. Some days I feel I can hardly walk down the stairs because my ankles and hips are so stiff.
Tom Morrison mobility exercises on TikTok have made me feel like a new woman, he’s got some great hip mobility exercises (& shoulders, spine, ankles -everything really) I am also 50.

What type of mobility exercises?

I get awful hip pain and started doing yoga and it's fantastic. I didn't realise that there were so many hip opening stretches you can do.

I have a yoga mat at home. Some mornings I just lie and stretch.

Maybe I need to investigate that? I've always found yoga boring and spend time thinking how other things would burn so many more calories. But it's worth a try.

Hrt hasn’t helped my joint pain at all (hips, knees, shoulders, ankles, elbows, wrists - all the joints!)
What does make a difference is cutting down on carbs and sugar, and keeping my weight down.

HRT has helped my joint pain. I'm 44.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 19/08/2023 10:46

It has helped mine, definitely

But I'm not doing it to burn calories. I am a veteran HIIT and weights and runner and now realising in mid 40s that I won't be flexible in my mid 50s unless I put in some effort stretching now.

I find it helps keep me calm and destressed too, I pay a lot of attention to my breathing while I'm doing it.

HRT has hugely relieved my joint pain.

NCTDN · 19/08/2023 17:11

If I ask my gp for hrt, is there anything specific I need to request?

Hrt has helped mine a bit but vitamin D got rid of it

HareSong · 22/08/2023 13:17

I hoped HRT would help mine, but it hasn't made any difference, as far as I can tell. Maybe I'd be worse if I wasn't on it, who knows?

Womblegreen · 22/08/2023 18:34

Progesterone really relieved my joint pain. Sadly I only take it 12 days a month and the relief is only during the time I am taking it.

Ichabodandme · 22/08/2023 18:35

Maybe some blood tests are in order too just to rule out any inflammatory type of arthritis.
