How do you remember to take your cyclical utrogestan?

I tried sticking to starting on the same date each month (1st) but over time, with months over 28 days, I felt it was dragging out/affecting my natural cycle and leaving me premenstrual for longer. I have a period tracking app so I look on that for day 15 but can forget to check sometimes. I can tell when I’m ovulating so wondered if I should just start that day. Once I’ve started I have a 12 day pill box but sometimes I forget and I can’t just take it when I wake up and remember as if I take it during the day it feels similar to having a migraine with aura and I can’t do anything. What are your tips and strategies for remembering pills on 12 days a month only?

When I took it, I used it on the same date each month. Irrelevant how many days in the month.

As long as I only took it 12times each calendar month, it didn't matter whether I took it on day 15 or day 17.

I always took mine on 21st of the month for 12 days. I only bled after the end of the utro. And then I'd start taking it the following 21st of the month.

I’m different as I just take it on the same day each month. I put a reminder in my phone and have that on a monthly repeat. I take other tablets each evening so every Sunday I fill my weekly pill box with the tablets and just add my etrogestan tablets on the evenings I need to. There’s no way I would be able to follow my period as I would just forget and I was told to take on the same 12 days each month

Also, if you do forget, do you keep taking all the pills so it’s a longer than 12 day period or just take fewer that month?

When I tried sticking to just calendar days my periods felt totally out of sync and heavier.

I just take it on the same day of the month, I take 24 out of the box (not out of the blister pack) and leave them in my bedside table and take them before bed. I start on the 1st of the month. However I normally don't take for all 12 days - I stop on the day the bleeding starts or it does get very heavy. I'll be going on to continuous soon and am slightly worried about breakthrough bleeding

@TheOGCCL The way to use two separate items (as opposed to tablets of a patch that come as a 'pack') is to use them the same way as a pack.

So, if women have tablets, the 2nd half of the pack contains both hormones. They take 28 tablets every month.
The same for patches- half the patches in the month have both hormones.

Women don't hold off the 2nd half of the pack of tablets (or patches) or try to match it to 'day 15' of their natural cycle. They don't count days.

The same with Utrogestan.
You aren't supposed to follow you own cycle (eventually it will be all over the place.)

You take it on the same day each month.
Eventually this will override your own cycle and you will only have the HRT cycle.

JinglingSpringbells · 04/08/2023 11:03

Just one more thing.
A lot of women arent ovulating when they start HRT (I wasn't- I was almost 53.)
So they don't try to follow their cycles.

As your periods become less frequent and you might go 2, 3, or 6 months between them, you can't wait till mid cycle to start your progesterone.

Many drs say choose the same day like the 1st of the month and stick to it.

I've set a 4 week reminder on my phone as otherwise I'd have no chance of remembering

housingplanningquestion · 04/08/2023 22:04

While I'm having regular cycles and know when I'm ovulating, I doing it then (scheduled every three months). I'm aware I'd have to change this once it changes - would probably go for day 15 of a cycle.
