My Mirena is due out in 3 years time and I’ll be 55. Will I be given another, or will they assume my periods are finished ?

I don't know the answer, but I am in the same boat as you. I will be 55 next year and my mirena is due to be removed . I did speak to my gynaecologist at the five year mark, who advised that because I was not using it for contraception then I could actually keep it for 10 years. I don't know if this is an option for you?

I will make an appointment ( probably privately I'm afraid) to have a conversation with my gynaecologist to see what my options are next year. I'm assuming they are, hoping I'm through menopause, having another mirena or HRT!

I guess it depends if you are using it only for contraception, or for the progesterone component of HRT? If the latter, I'd hope they'd let you have another. Mine 'runs out' when I'm 57, and I'm hoping to have another so I can continue my HRT. I know the Mirena doesn't suit everyone, but it's been brilliant for me.

I’m using it to stop heavy, more frequent periods mainly. I’m currently on gel as well, but not planning on being on it that long.
