Has anyone started hrt at age 66

Why do you ask?

Do you think your GP won't allow it? Or do you want experiences of how it helped?

Maybe it's a question for Granset where there are plenty of older members?

There are older women using it here (me) but not sure if anyone started it at 66.

A colleague of mine has just started at 60. She has done it due to dementia in the family. She had to say she was getting symptoms, yet she actually sailed through menopause.
Id guess you’d have to go private as I can’t see an NHS GP prescribing for the first time at 66, but happy to be told different !

You don't need to go on Gransnet just because you're 66 😂 Plenty of older members here!
@Theghostus can I recommend looking up Kate Muir's book Everything You Need To Know About Menopause. Also look at Dr Louise Newsome, who has a menopause clinic, books etc. According to them, HRT is good for menopausal woman of any age. You can arm yourself with information before visiting your GP, or go privately.

I know there are older members here but I meant not many will have started HRT at 66.

The British Menopause Society has HRT guidelines.
It says that women starting over 60 have to start on transdermal estrogen (so gel, patches or spray) and at a low dose then work up as necessary.

There is no age limit and as I've mentioned here a few times my consultant says he's started women in their 80s, who asked for HRT.

I read somewhere you had to start HRT within 10 yrs of your periods stopping or is that not the case?

No it's not the case.

The maximum benefits to the heart are if it's started within 10 years of the last period.

That isn't the same as not starting it at all after more than 10 years.

Doctor has recommended it because of all my bones aching anxieties and brain fog and most other symptoms we all get. Will try patch first but was just enquiring if anyone else started hrt at older age

Sorry @JinglingSpringbells ! Ive looked at Gransnet previously and it has such a different feel to MN. You're right that @Theghostus might find women there who've started it at an older age :)

Most replies you have got were on the presumption that you were thinking about it and worried your GP wouldn't 'allow it'.

I wouldn't worry about being older when you start it. There isn't much difference really between someone 55 or 66 if they are both post menopause.
