Sudden hair loss

My hair has suddenly started to fall out in big clumps. GP thinks it’s due to having covid a couple of months ago which may be right. Had bloods done this week. Waiting for results.

I started Vagifem a few weeks ago and stopped it as soon as my hair started falling out. Hair loss is a side effect but it is said it’s unlikely as dose is so small. anyone taken it and had hair loss?

I know there are more serious things to worry about but it’s upset me a lot as my hair was the only semi decent thing about me!

was/am taking vitamins and not using any heat on my hair. Cancelled my regular tint at the hairdresser. Any thoughts on what to do if this carries on?

Covid is far more likely than the Vagifem. Hair loss isn't a side effect of Vagifem - the leaflet you get with the Vagifem is completely false. For farcical reason it's a list of side effects of systemic estrogen (and an incorrect one at that), which Vagifem is not. It could also just be menopause, or something else like low iron or thyroid. I presume you didn't start any other medications in the last few months, as several medications can cause it.

My bloods are normal. Am pleased about that. I haven’t started any meds that could cause hair loss. Losing all the length now. Am booked to go to a hair loss clinic. I think I should look into getting a wig as I can’t see this getting better instantly. I think it was covid. Agree with you re Vagifem.

I had hair loss issues a couple of years ago. It was a combination of the side effects of my epilepsy meds, and chronic stress.
I started taking B-vit & zinc & selenium supplements and it took about 6 months but my hair started growing back. Its now in much better shape than it has been for years. Am just thinking that if its from covid, then the same might work for you. Fingers crossed!

Aitchoo thank you for replying. I was and am on vitamin supplements. Have started biotin and also vegan collagen. Had my hair chopped short to make it thicker looking. It’s shedding about 30% less. I stopped any medication I was on (fortunately I could). Will look into zinc and Selenium. Good to hear your hair grew back.

Are you vegan @Leonard1?

Leonard1 · 01/08/2023 17:31

Not I’m not vegan.

Oh ok, when you mentioned vegan collagen I thought you might be. Vegans can get deficient in several things that can cause hair loss.
