Period after 2 year gap?

GingerRuby · 16/07/2023 21:09

I am 52 and had my last period on 10th July 2021, thought that was me done with periods, the one good thing about the menopause for me so far.
Then today, have been bleeding, just like a quite heavy period, with mild cramps thrown in for good measure. My last few periods before they stopped were quite light so nothing like this.
I am not on any medication, no HRT, no nothing, anyone know what is going on? Googling brings up lots of contact GP, as can be sign of something nasty or polyps, trying to get an appt is near impossible so don't want to waste anyone's time.
Any ideas or experiences gladly welcomed!

You would not be wasting anyone's time. You do need to get this checked out, I'm afraid. Chances are it will turn out to be just a period (what a nuisance!) but you can't ignore it. This is classed as post menopausal bleeding and definitely needs to be investigated. Sorry!

You do need to be checked OP. Probably nothing sinister but def needs a GP appt.

You absolutely won't be wasting anyone's time , what makes you think this?

Thank you all for getting back to me so quickly! (And congratulations on the win today Carlos 😃).
OK, unanimous, I will call the doctor tomorrow, thank you again

I had this Op and it was only after I put a post on here that I went to my GP. They fast tracked me to my local hospital to have a scan. It was all fine in the end and that was about 6 years ago and I have never had another period since then. You must go to see your GP just to get it checked out.

It happened to me after a year at 53. Very heavy, long period, totally out of the blue. That was seven months ago, nothing since.

Thanks so much everyone for your advice, I am now on the 2 week pathway for an ultrasound, likelihood very low for anything sinister but best to get it checked, as you all said!
