I've just had a mirena fitted for the progesterone part of hrt. I'm just wondering what are the strings supposed to feel like when you check for them?

When I check I'm not sure I can even feel my cervix never mind any strings. It all just feels squishy! The consultant said the strings soften and then wrap around the cervix so how am I supposed to feel them? It''s only been up there 2 weeks I can't have lost it already surely?!

The consultant said to check once a month to make sure its still there. I must admit I was a bit 🤔 like I didn't know it could move?!

Also tmi but I've been constipated lately and it finely resolved itself this week. I thought if the mirena is going to come out, straining for a poo will do it! But surely I'd feel it come out?

I have had a Mirena since 2016, on my second one, for the progesterone part of HRT and have never been able to find the strings.

I felt the strings straight after it was fitted. Then checked a month later and couldn't find them. I was really worried about it but then I decided not to worry. It's clearly working so it's in the right place. Hopefully they'll find the strings when it's time to replace it! Try not to worry.

Its reassuring that others cant feel the strings either! Thanks all I'm just going to just forget about it 😁
