Night Sweats

I've been having night sweats which are getting increasingly worse over the last 4 months, twice maybe three times a night, just drenched. Also during the day but not quite so severe, just severe enough that I don't want to leave the house. I would have never thought that this could be so life changing! (I have other symptoms too but the sweating is the worst.)
A few questions please. Is Hrt the answer? If so what worked for you and how long did it take?
I'm 54 and my last period was 18 months ago.

Yes, HRT is the answer!

I knew my HRT was working when I stopped getting night sweats, I think it took a couple of weeks.

I would definitely be trying HRT, you really have nothing to lose. I would also be seeing your GP and testing for other things too. I developed night sweats post Covid and upped my HRT and it still didn't touch them. In my case it seems to be related to blood sugar levels.

I think that if you have stopped having periods for over a year then you only need to take oestogen and not progesterone, but a GP should be able to advise you. It is definitley worth getting an appointment with a menopause specialist GP if you can as you hear dreadful stories about women being fobbed off.

I was having awful night sweats every night, I would wake up as drenched as if I'd just come out of a shower, it was awful! I recently started HRT - a gel and tablets combination - the night sweats (and most of my other symptoms) stopped within a few days of starting the gel. It has literally transformed my life. I feel like a real person again!

All women using HRT need progesterone as well, unless they have had a hysterectomy.

I stopped my HRT as I didn't think it was helping, GP was not a lot of help.
My night sweats are terrible, worse than during the day.
I've bought a pet cooling mat which I lay over my pillow, when it loses its cool I flip it over, it's a godsend, doesn't stop the sweats but definitely cools me down

Thanks for the replies, this is reassuring. I've managed to get an appointment with the pharmacist at our practice, apparently she has a special interest in menopause. Fingers crossed.x
