How far apart were your periods before they stopped completely?

Mine is currently 79 days late. The most it's ever been late is 40 something days. Bloods 4-6 weeks ago confirmed I'm peri. Since then the hot flushes have started but they aren't bad. At first I used to feel like a period was coming but it never arrived. Now I've got none of the pmt like symptoms anymore and I'm wondering if this will be it. I'm 47.

Mine stopped abruptly for 3.5 months at 48, but then started up again for a few years and were quite regular, then petered out gradually when I was 53 ish, that is got a bit more spaced out and slowly lighter and lighter, last period at 54 and I got to menopause at 55. But everyone is different and that might be it for you. Hope your symptoms are low / zero! I actually feel more energised and active at 56 than I have for decades.

Last year I didn’t have a period for 206 days then had 2 regular periods then had another 80 days and had 2 regular periods again (although heavier and longer). I’m 53 and this has been going on for about 4/5 years or so. I’ve had hot flushes which have stopped when my period has restarted. I’m hoping they will soon stop altogether!

Seeline · 08/07/2023 10:24

Over the last few years I've had gaps of 106-267 days mixed in with anything between 16-90. Currently on day 203 and 🤞🤞. I'm 55.

Cookerhood · 08/07/2023 10:47

11 months, twice!

DorisD · 08/07/2023 11:17

About 2 to 4 months (didn't count the days.)
I had roughly a year between 51 and 52 when I had cycles almost on alternate months, maximum was 4 months, then no more by 53.

DorisD · 08/07/2023 11:18

TBH OP it could go on like this for a few years! 47 is a bit early as the average age is 51.

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 08/07/2023 11:37

Im 56 this year and theyre still coming. I had 1 in march then another 3 weeks later, then nothing till june then two 3 weeks apart again. They are stupidly heavy too, I have to get up every two hours overnight, i cant wait for them to stop.

Passthecake30 · 08/07/2023 12:21

6 months apart, and then 11 months apart. Seem to have completely gone now, I’m 48.

RuthW · 08/07/2023 12:40

Mine were every 7 months for two years

Deadringer · 08/07/2023 12:41

12 months, twice. Thought I was done both times.

merryhouse · 08/07/2023 14:49

Blimey. Anyone else go through a phase of having them every 2-3 weeks?

I'm 54 now and no sign of letting up. Had hot flushes for a few months at 50 but nothing since lockdown started (no I don't think that's related Grin).

I ostensibly have a Mirena but it ran out in September Blush

immergeradeaus · 08/07/2023 14:52

I’ve got them every two weeks. I’m looking forward to this phase finishing as I am getting 4 or 5 days off between them.

BeforetheFlood · 08/07/2023 15:15

I'm every two weeks as well! I was going to start a thread asking if this was anything to worry about because every time it catches me out and bothers me after 40ish years of regular 26-28 day cycles but I guessed the answer would be 'anything goes' at this stage of life! I've just been caught out on holiday, having come on only a week and a bit after finishing the last one.

Lanadelday · 08/07/2023 17:48

Mine went to every two weeks, for about a year or two, then started to space out, with an 8 month gap next (not sure if they're done or not yet)

AutisticLegoLover · 09/07/2023 00:45

Mine have been all over the place for about 6 years. Sometimes 3 days apart, 2 weeks apart, bleed for 3 weeks,. No predictability to them at all. When I was 12 I gave a period every 2 weeks for months but after that no nonsense until the last 6 years.
I'm thinking if the hot flushes have started then my ovaries are packing up. I've had several medical menopauses and they were like BAM!!! Overnight hot flushes from hell, migraines and mood swings and cystic spots on my back, pinprick spots all over my chest and back, stinky sweat, insomnia due to the sweats. This is so gentle in comparison.

I was coming on to ask a similar question.

I’ve been regular as clockwork for 42 years, however the last year I’ve been a day or two early or late but this month I’m 5 days late but have had painful cramps for 6 days but no sign of bleeding, I get mild cramping for a day a month normally but not like this. I’m 50.

This post makes me want to cry! I'm 49 and SO fed up of having periods. My cycle is anything from 28-90 days, but the thought it going on and on and on for at least another 7 years is really depressing. I must ask my DM when her periods stopped.

Looblou72 · 17/07/2023 09:24

Interesting to read everyone’s experiences, I was going to post a similar question to the OP. 50 and currently on a period lasting 2 weeks, not as heavy as usual just going on and on with no end in sight, varying from 19-30 days with some longer cycles up to 70 days where I think yay this is it! Just wondering if this means the end is in sight?
