Utrogestan 200mg capsules and prepayment certificate

Did a search and can’t find anything.

The NHS is now doing an HRT prescription prepayment certificate but I can’t find the vaginal capsules on the list of items covered. Do you know if the 200mg capsules are covered? Or am I going to have to pay far more because I don’t want pills, patches or the mirena coil (yet)?

Thanks. Yes. I don’t think the Utrogestan 200mg vaginal capsules are covered. Why the discrimination?

The 200mg vaginal preparation of utrogestan is not licenced for use as part of HRT regime in the UK. It is the utrogestan 100mg oral capsules which are licenced and therfor this is what is usually prescribed. Having said that a lot of women do use these capsules vaginally (all be it technically off licence!) That is why the 200mg vaginal pessaries are not included in the prepayment list of meds.
(Rather annoyingly currently however, urtogestan 100mg oral capsules are in in very short supply and hard to get hold of, so I know a few people who have been prescribed the 200mg pessaries insetad as a short term measure, although believe GPs are not supposed to be doing this!)
