Utrogestan

Has anyone in the SE managed to get utrogestan recently?

I have been offered provera or northisterone but don't want to take either as I find synthetic progesterone gives me a headache.

I have a months supply left so was wondering if it is worth waiting to see if it comes in stock anywhere.

I suggested Bijuva or the vaginal utrogestan to my gp but they say they are unable to prescribe either of these.

I finally managed to get some from a lovely little village pharmacy and they gave me 4 months supply! It helped that my GP incorrectly prescribed me 200mg for 25 days a month rather than 12 days. I had told them several times in the past that this was completely wrong but they never changed it.

Can you keep taking the Evorel patches even if you've run out of Utrogestan? Or do I need to stop the patches until the pills come back does anyone know please?

Arrrgghh!! Feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall - been trying to get a GP appointment to review my HRT. I explained to the receptionist (who is fab) I'm not getting on with evorel, want something body identicle and need a review appointment and justgot a text from GP to say he's prescribed me Provera. I'm not taking another synthetic progesterone and am convinced I need to up my oestrogen but need to do with under doctor guidance as I've no idea on doses etc. My usual GP is on maternity leave so I'm stuck with the aging male partner who knows nothing about menopause and his only point of reference seems to be his wife's experience about 20 years ago who I'm sure would be mortified if she knew how much he casually mentions her menopause

I've discovered there's a locum in on Wednesday so going to try and get an emergency appointment with her on in the hope she has some idea about HRT. For a time of life that is stressful enough, this really doesn't help 🙄

Look what I had delivered today via Pilltime - including the Provera I don’t even want 😂. I’m swopping back today and fingers crossed this is the answer but it’s a 3 month supply so not worrying about it just yet!

I’ve only ever been given 1 month at a time so when I couldn’t get a supply I was buggered.

Are the supply issues any better now?

Not near me. My independent chemist (that my GP recommended I use because they're good at managing HRT stock issues) hasn't had Utrogestan in since Feb!!

I'm having to use Provera which is freaking me out as I'm high risk for breast cancer already and Provera increases the risk further (for my circumstances). But my peri is so crippling that without HRT I can't work (and I'm the only source of income). I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Supply issues are expected for the rest of the year apparently.

Notellinganyone · 05/08/2023 11:33

I’ve just bought some from Oxford Pharmacy online. I keep two months extra supply in hand in case there are issues when I ask for repeat prescription. I wouldn’t take norethisterone.

vjg13 · 05/08/2023 11:39

@HundredMilesAnHour So sorry to hear that, have you tried any other independent pharmacies?

Very grim news that the supply issues have no resolution in sight.

Allthecatseverywhereallatonce · 05/08/2023 11:41

Just had 3 months worth delivered by pharmacy2u.

Sadly there seems to be nothing near me. No idea why my area is such a problem. Tried to get an answer from the pharmacist but to be frank, she just didn't seem to care (the irony being she's a 50 something woman so I thought she might actually be sympathetic).

That seems to be in contravention of the SSP which I guess is why some of us are still on the receiving end of the shortage if some pharmacists are giving out more than the 2 months.

Supply update: hormone replacement therapy medication Utrogestan®

A serious shortage protocol (SSP) has been issued across the UK for Utrogestan® 100mg capsules today (19 May 2023).

Well I just requested my HRT and was sent 3 months worth of all of it. I have always been sent all this amount and have never had issues getting it from pharmacy2u I assume they are aware of the SSP, friends of mine receive the same from them too.

IndiganDop · 05/08/2023 13:17

I am in North West and have never had any issues getting utrogestan. My patches are a bit more hit and miss, I like the estradot but they can't always get them.
