Hi , I was wondering if anyone could please give some advice.I am turning 50 next month , I am suffering from almost constant bleeding, and I’m getting really depressed about it . I’m not on any medication like hrt . I am going for an ultrasound tomorrow , but I’m not sure it will show anything.does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Yes I had the same, only found out after menopause (when it finally stopped) that I had a uterine fibroid. But do get it checked out to ensure it is not something more serious.

Could be any number of things and not all sinister, I have a couple of friends who have had similar so it's not uncommon. One had fibroids which she's just had removed. Wait and see what the scan says, it's good you're being seen. Worth getting your iron level checked if you haven't already too. Good luck tomorrow.

Mine is fibroids confirmed by a scan then hysteroscopy. I’m now awaiting a day op for removal it’s been months waiting due to backlog in gyna. It could be womb thickening as well. I had hysteroscope using a local anaesthetic so it wasn’t they uncomfortable and they took a biopsy which was all clear.

I’ve had progesterone tablets to help reduce bleeding whilst I’m waiting for treatment. If it’s heavy you maybe at risk iron deficiency too. I hope the scan helps but be prepared for delays in treatment if your anything like my health trust.

I had the same. Nothing on ultrasound just menopause / peri. I had Mirena coil fitted as it was making it impossible leave house or work. This stopped all bleeding although I now have no idea what stage menopause I’m at! If you are feeling low have they tested to check if you are anaemic? You might need extra iron.

Thank you all so much , I had a polyp removed in 2006 , as it caused similar issues, so I’m wondering if I could have another one .

Do get checked out. I don't want to worry you but I had similar at 48 and a hysteroscopy with a biopsy found endometrial cancer. It was a very unexpected diagnosis, and rare in someone in their 40s. Fortunately it is very treatable and it was caught early. Three years down the line, I'm fine.

Could be that you are having almost constant periods. Mine got closer and closer together, so I had a mirena coil put in.

Will they wait and see or operate?

Toomanysquishmallows · 24/06/2023 12:28

Hi @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor , I would like them to operate , this condition is seriously affecting my quality of life , thank you for asking .

Fingers crossed, I had to Google what it was as I hadn't heard of it before. . I know what an ovarian cyst is as I'm waiting to have one removed myself.

Summer76swimmer · 24/06/2023 13:24

I do hope you can receive treatment quickly as it’s so debilitating dealing with constant cramps and bleeding. I’m utterly fed up with the impact on my life as I wait for a gyna op.

Toomanysquishmallows · 24/06/2023 13:30

@Summer76swimmer it’s horrible isn’t it ? It’s making me really miserable.

Yes no fun as my near constant bleeding started in August and I’m currently clinging onto my job with lots flexi and I had to have some sick leave in March even though I mostly work from home. My DH has been really sympathetic but it’s impacting our marriage I do feel like an invisible 50yr at times. My op is scheduled in August so it will have taken a year to sort if this procedure works. If I’d known that at the start I’d have got a credit card and gone private!
