I'm 43 and perimenopausal, on Femoston 2/10 which is working well now. Also prescribed Vagifem and Ovestin and the Ovestin particularly has been amazing, although I'm not yet 100%. Have been on all of it about 2 months now. Had no symptoms internally, it was all vulval itching, redness then soreness.

I developed a UTI in March as a result of my (then unrecognized) vaginal atrophy, or whatever it's called now. I know it and perimenopause generally increases risk of UTI through several mechanisms. It took 2 months, a recurrence and 3 rounds of antibiotics resulting in a c diff infection to get rid of that UTI. So for me preventing future UTIs (and antibiotics which could cause the c diff to come back) is absolutely my number one priority. So I've kept using both Vagifem and Ovestin nightly and my doctor is fine with that. I'm in for a 3 month review in a couple of weeks.

Does anyone know how would I know if I'm using too much of these? Are there symptoms? Or what problems could it cause?

Are you inserting Ovestin or using it externally? It's fine to do that although it's not likely that you need it every single day.

The regime is twice a week, although many drs say 3-4 times a week is fine for internal use.

You're unlikely to cause any harm but maybe longer term you can reduce it?

Ovestin is just externally. Yes I expect I will be able to reduce it over time. I'm just not sure how to know when to reduce and how low to go. I don't want to first discover that I've gone too low when I get another UTI.

No one can be sure!
You could try reducing by one day a week for a while and see how it goes.
