Boobs Killing me :-((

Hi guys,

I am recently 44 years old. I had a big operation a couple years ago, and my body/hormones went haywire after.

I limped along for 8 or so months and then my moods got so low about a week before my period, I decided to get help.

So, once I get my period, I am flying it for 2 weeks. Then the 2 weeks before my period, things start flaring up again.

I have tried the combi patch, but I am allergic to the glue!

I am currently on rub on Estrogen gel (2 pumps) and then 200 mg progesterone tablet from Day 12 to Day 26, with Day 1 counted as the first day of my period. I also take daily star flower oil. I also exercise.

  • On current regimen (gel/progesterone tab) since Feb 2023.
  • It is now Day 20 today, and my boobs are killing me (same every month). If am taking more estrogen, why are they killing me? Is the estrogen causing the problem?
  • Is it possible to just take the progestone only?
  • Is counting Day 1 correct for the first Day of my period? It means I can get my period anytime... Could be a week plus after stopping the drugs. Should I count Day 1 as the second day after I stop the drugs?
  • I upped the dose to 3/4 pumps to ease boob pain and had bleeding mid way through. Seemed like a period.

The doctor (female) isn't really sure of a lot of questions I have, nor pharmacists. I'd thought I'd try with ladies who know the suffering (unfort).

I do notice my mood bit better the last week, but my boobs no. I'd say my boob pain is my priority.

No help, but solidarity. Hoping someone comes along who has useful advice!

I was on Oestrogel with a Mirena coil for about ten months, and all was fine until I got Covid in April when everything went haywire - breast pain, bleeding, spots, awful! Funnily enough I was the same after each of the three vaccinations before I was on HRT. I played around with the oestrogen dose which stopped the bleeding but my boobs felt like pulsating boils! I’ve stopped the gel altogether now and actually feel mentally better but have proper Carry On style bosoms which HURT. The coil as a contraceptive is a joke since I can barely stand to be hugged, never mind have actual sex!

I was the same on the gel. My breasts were enormous and agonisingly painful and tender. I switched from gel to patches and it all went back to normal.

Hi there
I read your message and it imitattes many things happening to me at the moment too.
I was put on evorel patches a few months ago. I had terrible breast pain and my boobs swelled up a whole cup size. I couldn't let my partner touch my boobs, even my bra rubbing against me was sore. It's a hit or a miss if I have a period. Last month I had 2 heavy bleeds in 4 weeks each lasting around 6 days.
The swelling didn't stop at my boobs, my belly was swollen and like my boobs, brick hard.
I decided to stop the evorel as I was taking it mainly for hot flushes and night sweats. Within one month my boobs returned to the normal size and softened as did my belly.
When I spoke to my Dr she advised that I had been very sensitive to the oestrogen in the patches and that's what had caused the pain and swelling. She couldn't explain why as oestrogen is meant to help with breast issues not hinder. I think I was just unlucky.
It could be something similar happening to you too. I'd definitely speak to your GP again and maybe see if there's an alternative to what you are using.
I realise our symptoms are not exactly the same but I hope this helps to even just reassure you that you are not alone.
All the best xx
