Acne and peri menopause

Hi, I have just started on HRT ( 2 months in) for peri menopause symptoms. I have felt lots of improvement, reduction in headaches, better mood, less irritable, sleeping better and more energy. However I have gone back to having teenage skin! small inflamed white head spots down both sides of my chin ( end of mouth down to bottom of chin) I used to be on Dianette pill as did get these spots when younger and think that I have always had some kind of hormonal imbalance.
My GP wants me to keep going with the HRT and see if things settle but I am 47 and now feel like im putting up with wrinkles and spots!! I am thinking of paying for a test to check my hormone levels. Does anyone know about these and or recommend any? or actually just have any advice- it will be welcomed :)

Which HRT are you on?

The type that have Norethisterone ( the progestogen) can cause acne as they are androgenic.

Please don't waste money on hormones tests. What do you think they will show? Nothing.

@JinglingSpringbells Im on Utrogestan 100mg daily tablet.

Have you considered Dermatica for your skin? I've had bad skin all my life but started using Dermatica a year ago (after MN recommendations). I'm in peri and take Utrogestan/Provera plus Oestrogel and my skin is now the best it's been in my life. Everyone keeps telling me how well I look. (Dermatica costs approx £25/month).

Thanks @HundredMilesAnHour . I have tried Dermatica in the past and it actually did work well. I returned to taking Dianette at that time and so stopped the Dermatica due to expense ( and skin was good) but its good to know thats working for you in peri. I will go back to it.
Do you take the Utrogestan in a daily tablet?

I've been taking Utrogestan for 12 days every month but have had to switch to Provera due to the shortage of Utrogestan. I was a bit worried about it but Provera has had zero side effects (whereas I always felt quite rough for the first few days on Utrogestan) so that's all good.

Dermatica have just increased their prices unfortunately. But I use it instead of night time moisturiser so it doesn't work out too bad in the end. It's definitely made a huge improvement to my skin, both the acne and the wrinkles.

Hi All,
I'm reviving this thread as I started developing spots/acne on my chin for the last few months. I'm 47 so am assuming peri menopause. I'm looking to get some Dermitica and was wondering if you can use it alongside your regular cleansing routine? @HundredMilesAnHour do you continue with your regular routine in the morning?
And how soon does it take for the spots to clear? Thanks in advance.

@wizzbitt Yes, I've continued my regular routine - I use Haeckels marine facial cleanser morning and evening. In the morning after Haeckels, I use Dermalogica Daily Exfoliant and then Superdrug Naturally Radiant toner followed by Dr Sebagh moisturiser (Luminous Glow) and Sunday Riley / Haeckels eye cream. In the evening after my Haeckels (which I wash off with a Konjac sponge in the evening), I apply Sunday Riley UFO face oil, Sunday Riley retinol eye serum (5 Stars), Sunday Riley eye cream and then the Dermatica over face, neck and decolletage. Probably took a month or so for my spots to go but I didn't seem to have any purging etc. I wish I'd found Dermatica years ago as it's been so great for my skin.
