Hi

has anyone taken pregabalin to help with peri menopause symptoms?

if so, how much did you end up taking? I’m on 450mg and feeling better but still have anxiety. I know you can go up to 600mg but I’m scared of putting on more weight!

any positive stories out there?

Is it an antidepressant? If so, that goes against NICE prescribing for peri menopause. They said in 2015 that GPs must stop prescribing ADs for menopausal symptoms as HRT is the first line of treatment.

If your GP has prescribed this, go back armed with the NICE guidance (it's easily findable online if you google) and discuss the correct options.

God no. It's not even an antidepressant (which wouldn't be recommended anyway) and it's highly addictive.

As an anti-anxiety med nothing is going to stop you being anxious 100% especially if you aren't combining it with CBT or other counselling.

I can’t take HRT.

I had Pregabalin. It was amazing against anxiety. Even at a low dose. Better than anti depressants. But it gave me severe heartburn and stomach pain.

How did you find coming off it?

@Beckycw awful. But it was over in 3 days.

Did you taper?

No, l just stopped. I was only on a low dose. I was on 50 mg Amitryptiline and 50 mg Pregabalin. I felt fantastic.

@Beckycw we 'chatted' about this a while back when you asked advice from me , and you were using HRT then. You were under a specialist for menopause.

Can I ask what's changed?

It just wasn't helping me. I tried it for 3 months.

3 months is not long. It's the minimum time for any HRT. It's quite normal to try a few types, each for 3 months and see if one suits you any better than the first.

Was this not suggested to you?

Most consultants would say 'Ok, this isn't helping, but there are plenty of other options so let's try this one next'.

Agree with you on this... It took a trial of four different hrt meds before I finally got the right one for me.
OP should go back to her doctor and ask to try something different.

3 months is nothing! You've probably barely found a product that suits you let alone the correct dose.
