On HRT - period a week late

My period is a week late, and since taking HRT it’s been really “on time”, arriving solidly at 28 days.

Is it normal to still have periods that are slightly erratic even when on HRT? (I am taking oestrogel and progesterone tablets)

I have all the symptoms - sore boobs, tired, but just no period.

Mine are really erratic, just been 41 days between mine, had all the bastard symptoms though. It’s normal for me.

It’s weird - I’m wondering if there’s an imbalance and maybe I have too much oestrogel now? I’ve gone up to 4 pumps from 3 and a bit last month?

Is there any chance of pregnancy?

You won't have your normal cycle any more when on HRT.

The sort you are using is sequential/ cyclical. You will have a withdrawal bleed at the end of the progesterone phase- usually 3-4 days after. BUT it doesn't always happen. Just see what happens- it's definitely not a reason to see your dr unless you went for months with no bleed.

I actually took a test this morning I was so baffled about my late period. But it was negative!

That’s interesting to know! I am fairly new to HRT, and I’m in my early 40s so my periods had been fairly regular even before HRT - but even more predictable on it.

Mine jumps around all over the place, and this month didn't happen at all. I mentioned it to the doc at my last review, and she didn't seem to be particularly fussed!

I already had slightly irregular periods before HRT, regulated more when I started it and then they got longer and I started missing them. I think I took 3 pregnancy tests over this time 😂 but eventually our periods do stop and they can do it erratically and reappear and everything . I am now on continuous Utrogestan as I was not doing well with 3 days off, and I probably get a light period every 3 months.

Oh crikey! The lack of regular period might drive me a bit mad! I like knowing when it’s coming 😂

I know! It’s how perimenopause is for a lot of women. They don’t often just stop one day and that’s it, sadly! My friend had no period for 6 months, then back with a vengeance, then none for 8 months, then another period… she eventually stopped altogether of course but it was a bit all over the place for 2 years.

Would me upping my oestrogen dose have something to do with a later period this month?

No, quite the opposite.
Estrogen builds up the womb lining.
Progesterone keeps it under control.

Has anyone explained to you how HRT works? It sounds as if your dr has given it to you without much info.

I got it via a 10 min appointment - I felt lucky to get it at all 😳

But actually - I was told that (about oestrogen building the lining up and progesterone keeping it under control). I was just grasping at ideas why my period is wonky for the first time!

Hiya,

Thank you for sharing this! I have POI and have experienced exactly the same thing. Please can I ask how you are and whether your period came back?
