I keep putting weight on

Hi all,

I stated having perimenopausal symptoms maybe a couple of years ago: hot flushes, then frozen shoulder, then anxiety.

I am managing them well with herbal medicine, but THE WEIGHT…I keep putting weight on despite exercising at least four times a week, and I feel like I’ve barely bought new clothes and they already feel too tight at the waist, where all the extra pounds are going to.

I’ve been doing 8 hour window IF for a few weeks now and it’s made bugger all difference.

Could anyone recommend what has worked for you?

Noom. It's really good.

Also, get HRT. It's much more effective than herbs - I was taking an insane cocktail of herbs every day to get through it, and then finally I realised that I was turning into my MIL, and sheepishly rang my GP and she put me on HRT and it's way more effective. No more hot flushes or insomnia - it's great.

When you are sleeping properly every single night it is much much easier to stick to a calorie deficit. When I was awake half the night I was so tired that I was just munching my way through the day. I've been doing Noom for 6 or 8 weeks now, I forget, and I've lost 3 kilos of the 5 I was aiming for.

The weight wasn't general perimenopause, it was specifically from tiredness-eating from poor sleep.

I definitely now need less calories than I did for me it’s as simple as that . I run 3 times a week and that gave me the chance to snack .. waiting till mealtimes even if a bit hungry is getting my weight back down .

Thank you, I actually don’t have symptoms at the moment other than putting weight on so I don’t see a need for HRT, maybe in the future if the symptoms come back and I can’t manage them with the herbs.

(That was for @Passerillage , for some reason the quote didn’t work)

Nobody talks about this. You need to drastically cut your calorie intake just to stay the same weight. I wish I had known this 20 years ago. Try and work out your base calorie requirement and stick to it. I found an app somewhere, maybe even NHS website. It seems that my calorie needs are really low and nothing like what I actually eat - and I am no glutton.
