Question about timings for Utrogestan an Oestrogel

I’ve been using 2 pumps of Oestrogel daily (in the morning, after my shower) for about 6 weeks and I have 2 x 100g Utrogestan to be taken on days 15-26 before bed.

Ive read the small print and it says to take them both at the same time. Should I use the gel in the evening to sync with my tablets?

Also, if I take the pills on days 15 - 26, is day 27 effectively day 1 of the next cycle?

I put my Oestrogel on at night at the same time as I take the utrogestion. I started on the Gel just before I was due to go away to an extremely hot country menopause doctor told me to use it at nighttime so suncream didn’t interfere with absorption of the Oestrogel.

You have day 27 and 28 as just normal oestrogen days and then start Day 1 again.

omnishambles · 08/05/2023 20:58

Yes I was told to use gel at night with the pills to aid sleep. I changed mine to always be the 1st to the 12th every month as I was forgetting/taking too many and getting confused and that was causing cysts etc.

I use gel in morning as I read it can interfer with sleep (was taking it just before bed before). Take progesterone just before because it can help sleep.

Yes, me too.

That makes sense @Strongbeatsskinny, have you continued with the same pattern?

My sleep is far better since I switched to putting the gel on at night along with the utrogestan.

Thank you @bluesky. I’ve made myself a table to track the days and I suddenly wondered about days 27 and 28.

Thanks for sharing the advice you received @omnishambles. Have you noticed an improvement in your sleep?

Sorry to hear about the cysts, hope the change in days has helped.

Thanks @Shortpoet, interesting that people have been told different things. No wonder there’s confusion.

Have you noticed an improvement in your sleep since changing to mornings?

Yes, me too.

Thanks @vjg13, are you sleeping better now?

Im taking something separate to help me sleep so I’m not able to tell whether the Oestrogel is better in the morning or the evening.

That’s good to know @Pineda. What prompted you to change? Wondering if you acted on advice.

I've always taken both at night.

On the progesterone cycle I plumped for starting it on 25th of each month, so I remember (birth date) as my periods have been doing their own thing now for a while, and I don't actually get a regular cycle at all.

vjg13 · 09/05/2023 13:47

@LostMyUserName I sleep more deeply on my Utrogestan days (currently doing 14 on and then 14 off but will change to continual in the next few months) but I also have very vivid dreams that seem to stay with me all day.

I have always had poor sleep and also take 5mg of melatonin each night. My general sleep quality has really improved with HRT and I am a firm convert. I wavered for so long and struggled on, now you have to prise it from my hands! Smile

I’m pleased your sleep has improved @vjg13, I struggle too and have done for as long as I can remember.
