Hormone levels and wether to take HRT

I am nearly 44. I am thinking to going t to the GP to discuss HRT. Main symptoms are body pains that I just can't take anymore. Mainly hip, knee, neck. Over the last 6 months has got worse. It is stopping me exercise and now gaining weight. Feels like miserable cycle to be in. also low sex drive, grumpy, tired. Sound a bundle of fun don't I! Any way, if my GP says to do hormone levels and they are normal, I know they may still treat symptoms. Will taking hormones if my levels are ok be dangerous? Or have other side effects? Although I am desperate to sort this and hoping HRT will I am nervous of doing something worse if the levels are normal. Hope this makes sense. Thanks if you can help me.
