Hi , I’ve been on HRT for two years & have been having mammograms since I was 50 I’m now coming up to 57 they’ve all be fine , a few weeks ago I had a letter for a mammogram which I thought was strange as it’s only been two years . I called them to ask why & was told they are ahead with mammograms and it’s up to me if I attend the appointment but there was nothing to say that there was a reason for me being called earlier .

I know that I’m lucky to have been called but why am I so nervous , I think it’s because I’m on HRT & it can cause denser breast tissue .
I will go to the appointment next week but I’m so nervous I’ve never felt like this before .

Try not to worry, if there was current guidance to scan women on hrt more often they'd be open about it, don't think they'd make up stories about being ahead.

It's a good thing so be reassured if there is an issue it will be picked up sooner. Good luck.

Thankyou for your reply Janiie, my rational head is on over drive , I’m a bit fearful that they will find something 🙈

Of course that's everyone's fear but you have to remember that if they do find something, it's already there, isn't it, it's not like the act of having a mammogram will make something appear and (speaking from experience) if there is something there, it's so much better to find it earlier. But of course the chances really are they they won't find anything.

I know totally understandable but the risks are very low and as pp said if there is anything then to pick it up a year before scheduled mammogram is a good thing.

As an aside I wish there was something a bit more advanced than mammograms, in this day of high tech they seem so brutal and archaic. I bet if men had to painfully squash parts of their anatomy into a machine there'd soon be advances!

Thankyou so much for your reassuring replies ladies it means a lot . I actually feel sick with worry which is something that I’ve never had before when it comes to mammograms .
Maybe it’s an age thing as we get older
Janiie you made me laugh about squashing men’s bits 😂

Honestly the worry is completely normal and unfortunately unavoidable. Think we all dread mammograms, MRIs, CT scans etc. What you have to do is just accept you will be chewed up until it's over, try distraction keep busy and then get yourself a treat when you get the all clear Wine.

Thankyou Janiie, I received an email from the hospital asking if I’d take part in a 3D mammogram maybe that’s why the nhs are calling women earlier 🤔
