Tests OK how to discuss

I've had some blood tests for hormone levels, during my period. These have come back as normal, no action required.

I'm getting some symptoms though. I'm 46. I know the NICE guidance says about no tests required.

So how to discuss all this with the GP?

I suppose it depends on what your GP is like.

Mine did blood tests to check iron levels and thyroid as well as hormones. She said it wasn't reliable for hormones and offered HRT based on symptoms and I was 44 at the time.

Just make sure your ferritin levels are OK - over 70 for hair growth. I had very low levels due to flooding and so I was dizzy etc.

I'd go in and when they ask how they can help, just start with - 'I'd like HRT, this is the type I'd like'.

Dont faff around in conversation.

Ferritin levels were 21 so quite low. Thanks

@Orangesandlemons77 mine was 16.

GP put me on ferrous sulphate which I took every second morning 2hrs before food or coffee/tea, with 1000mg of vitamin C which helps absorption.

Am now ferritin over 70 and lots of hair regrowth.

Also I started using tranexamic acid to help thr flooding periods and the HRT has also reduced them significantly.

Oh and a full glass of water as the vit C tablet sometimes got stuck and caused awful cramps, but it's fine once it's gone down.

If it's HRT you want have a read of Davina's book there is pretty much a script of how to speak to the GP in there. Good luck
