Femoston and Estradiol

Hi, I am 53 and peri-menopausal.
I have just been prescribed Femoston 1/10 by the GP. However, when the prescription came through, it was for Femoston AND Estradiol 1mg. I spoke to the surgery receptionist to ask why and (after reading the notes) she said I needed to take the Estradiol for 14 days and the Femoston for 14 days.
This still seems strange?

Femostan is just progesterone. Usually HRT requires progesterone and estrogen (estrodial).

I'm on Femoston 1/10 and don't have anything else. The packet has two different coloured tablets. I was under the impression they were 2 different types of hormone.

@Pollyanna8844 This is really serious as it's a prescribing mistake.

I assume the estradiol is gel and not vaginal cream?

Femostan is sequential hrt- half the tablets are estrogen only and half are estrogen + dydrogesterone (which is a type of progestogen.) The leaflet in the pack should explain all of this.

You need to raise this with the GP and maybe the practice manager- the receptionist is not qualified to answer this medical query. It may not just be you who is being given the wrong drugs!

Thanks JinglingSpringbells. The Estradiol is a 1mg tablet. I have finally received the medication and the Estradiol label says 'take 1 daily on days 1-14' and the Femoston label says 'take one daily on days 14-28 of your cycle'!

This makes no sense at all unless I'm confused.

You would normally take all the tablets in a box of Femoston. Half are estradiol alone, and half are estradiol + dydrogesterone.

Have you google Femoston? It shows a pack with 28 tablets in a bubble strip. Half are estrogen only, the other half are estrogen + dydrogesterone.

What kind of box are the estrogen-only tablets in? Is there a brand name on them?

The estrogen only tablets are called Elleste Solo. The Femoston have 2 types of tablets as you said.

This is shocking, Your GP ought not to make a mistake like this,
You need to go back and also consider writing to the practice manager with details of this error.
