So have been prescribed patches for first time I’m 43 main symptom is anxiety, among lots of other things.Periods still regularish been waiting for period to start patches. Put one on last night and took it off this morning as panicking about side effects! Decided I was being silly put another one on an hour later and just took it off again. Can someone please reassure me I’m feeling like a right idiot. I’m on a three month trial and now if I try again next month will have to ring doctors as two patches down.

I've recently started the patches nearly four weeks in , what side effects are you worrying about ? Have you read the information that came with the patches ?
I'm using Everol Sequi my side effects have included some headaches , dry eyes causing my contact lenses to literally fall out ! These things have now settled a little.
My anxiety is still through the roof so no changes yet , I have crazy vaginal and anal itching which I had before starting the patches I've been prescribed Ovestin for this which has helped somewhat but still struggling. I still have low mood too.
I'm quite determined to see this through for the three months.
Good luck OP hope you get sorted soon

Hi OP you don't need to wait a month to start again you can start at any time.

I started 4 days into my period in January, I'm now on month 4 and my bleed had synced to my HRT cycle after three months.

Also the physical side effects were gone after two months _ headaches, sore breasts, swollen tummy. All settled in no time at all.

Thankyou all for your comments. I just feel so silly. It’s the heavier random bleeding which is freaking me out, I’m having a really bad period at the min and the doctor warned me hrt takes 3 months or so to settle and can cause heavy bleeding. You can probably tell from my posts my anxiety is crazy which is why I feel so silly as I know hrt could really help me

Your anxiety may be the menopause speaking. I have never in my life been as anxious as I was during menopause. FWIW I also started HRT at 43. I have not had a single side-effect from it. HRT transformed my life for the better. I've tried several different forms, partly to find the best one for me and partly because of the shortages in recent years. Not a single one was bad.

Go for it. Chances are you'll be OK. More than OK - chances are you will feel start to feel better after a couple of months.

Re heavy bleeding (yup, been there as well), why not have a Mirena? Sorts out the bleeding and you only need to use continuous oestrogen.

I started HRT at 40, had exactly the same concerns you have. Honestly, it has been transformational. My anxiety has dialled down a good 80% and a host of other symptoms have disappeared
