Has your anxiety/depression improved on HRT?

I’ve had a life long history of anxiety and have had depression on/off throughout my adulthood but since hitting the age of 45 (now 50) I just can not begin to explain how bad my anxiety has become, it’s daily and completely controlling me no matter what I do to try and elevate it. This anxiety is having huge implications on my physical health too.
As is the story with many woman, I have struggled to get any gp to acknowledge that I may be perimenopausal let alone prescribe me hrt but I am getting to the point that I need something and antidepressants just don’t agree with me, even though my gp pushes and pushes these onto me.
Has anyone found a relief in their mental health issues since being on HRT? And does anyone know exactly how it helps? I’ve heard that progesterone is very low at this age and it is known as the calming hormone?

..I'm also on Fluoxetine.

HRT had a quick-ish and big effect on both my anxiety and anger. Sleep improved on progesterone nights for the first 2 months too, sadly not the following 3 months.

Thank you @Touty

Yes, beyond all expectations.

Sandrena lifts my mood.
Micronised progesterone squishes the anxiety. As long as I stick to a 25/28 one capsule vaginally routine. Two a day half a month and my mood plummets. No break on one a day and grey skies creep in by day 26.

I got so overexcited I decided my anti depressants were redundant. Turns out they weren’t. So not letting myself get overly optimistic that I’m cured again. It’s taken a month to recover from that “wean myself off experiment”.

I've been taking HRT for about a year (late 40s, peri, regular periods) and it has helped massively with brain fog, peaks of anxiety where my heart would race, felt the need to run away and was very emotional.
Post-period and pre-ovulation I feel brilliant - energetic, happy, enthusiastic, invincible almost!
Then post ovulation, when I start the progesterone, I feel flat, tired, little enthusiasm about life, snappy, irritable.
So for me, HRT has helped but the monthly fluctuations in mood are there, but manageable and I know aren't permanent.
Re aura migraines, I had them in my early teens (when I started menstruating) and during both my pregnancies (changes in hormones) and have had one in the last year, but they haven't increased in frequency since I started taking HRT.

@kizziee im still taking the same antidepressant and now I think they are working again, my Dr said they stopped working because my oestrogen was low, apparently we have oestrogen receptors in our brain.

I'm really interested to read this. I take Tamoxifen and sertraline and every couple of months it feels like the sertraline just stops working for roughly 10 days. I get a horrible low mood and life feels pointless. I put it down to bad PMS (even though I often fon't get a period) but now thinking it's the lowering of estrogen in my brain that's causing the issue.
