Digestive issues/trapped wind?

Bugsy73 · 07/04/2023 17:15

Hi,
I have recently started with trapped wind after eating (anything, anytime but worse in the evenings). Its a little bit in my chest but mostly between my shoulder blades. Its not hugely uncomfortable, more irritating.
I am putting it down to peri menopause; should I be seeing the GP or seeing how it goes?
I always have a niggle in the back of my head that any symptom or discomfort is due to a serious health issue (cancer or something cardiac related), but I'm trying to ignore that voice as the sensible part of me believes it is far more likely due to my age!

I think you know the answer :)

You need to see your GP.

It could be anything....your pancreas, liver, stomach, ovaries..

but you possibly need an ultrasound to get it checked.

ps It could be your gallbladder- gall stones maybe?

Bugsy73 · 07/04/2023 19:54

Thanks. I'll make an appointment! Defo not gall bladder as that is long gone 😂

I went to the doctor with something similar. I also had some spotting in between periods. It turns out that I have an ovarian cyst and apparently that can play havoc with the stomach too. I thought that was interesting that the two systems - digestive and reproductive can be linked. I am waiting for a gynae referral now so I can see what happens next but i am a lot less scared now I know. In the meantime I am taking a daily tablet to stop the stomach producing so much acid causing the bloating and trapped wind etc.

So go to the doctor and just get everything checked out with some simple tests and hopefully your mind will eventually be laid to rest. Good luck!

Thankyou!! This is reassuring! How strange though! The body is so weird 😂. I hope your referral comes through swiftly and you get it sorted.

@Staticgirl

I’ve got an ovarian cyst too and am also struggling with bloating and uncomfortable trapped wind.

What’s the tablet you take?

Staticgirl · 10/04/2023 19:03

Hi @Tiddler39 It's called lansaprazole and is prescription only from the doctor. It can be prescribed for lots of different types of stomach ache. There is an over the counter, weaker one a day tablet that is similar with Esamoparzole in it but I think if you also have a cyst ot might be worth explaining to the doctor that you are also having problems with your stomach. They'll probably want to do the poo tests to rule out any other diseases.

I did forget to say to the OP @Bugsy73 that there are lots of common stomach complaints that could be causing the problems and she should see her doctor so she can get some tests done and the majority of conditions ruled out. The most common ones are quite minor although a massive hassle. A lot of them can be managed with diet but it can be worrying until you have all your test results back.
