Slightly panicking here! I've been on HRT for about a year after developing hot flushes, insomnia, shorter periods and anxiety. I've been on 1mg Sandrena a day, plus 200mg Utrogestan on 12 days of the month.
Initially all was good, the hot flushes stopped and I was sleeping much better. My periods however got heavy again and the anxiety ramped up. I put that down to stress though.
Recently my anxiety has gone through the roof and really become quite debilitating. I've become really jittery too. I decided to get my hormone levels checked and had a blood test yesterday at one of those one stop shop testing places that has popped up. They tested my oestradiol, FSH, LH, testosterone, progesterone, SHBG, free androgen index and prolactin. The results have just come through and they've measured my oestradiol at 2149 pmol/l. I googled and this seems astonishingly high? My prolactin, shbg and free androgen index were also quite high. I'm going to try and speak to my doctor, (it's virtually impossible to get an appointment), but wondered if anyone could tell me if this is likely to be some kind of mistake, or if not, I assume I'll need to stop the HRT immediately?
I'm on day 10 of my cycle btw.
Thanks for reading!

Hopeful bump - GP was not much help, just told me to stop. No advice re blood test results, (I used econsult and received a very short reply).

@Creamcrackersandricecakes did you get medical insight/advice on this in the end? Just had similar levels and not sure what to do!

Chocolatecoveredshitpig · 29/06/2023 00:16

Hello @cadink! Unfortunately I didn't get any more joy from my GP. I felt better after stopping the HRT, but about a month ago I started to get palpitations again and my anxiety worsened. I've had yet another ECG and had some blood taken, so now awaiting results. I suspect they're going to say it's nothing though. So frustrating. I'm sorry you've had the same issue - hopefully your doctor might be more helpful than mine!

(PS, I've namechanged since my original thread!)

@Chocolatecoveredshitpig

I did the same test but no idea what's good or bad levels as goggle gives different info and the GP refuses to discuss because bloods weren't done through the surgery.
My results are opposite of yours my oestradiol is 283 one site says ok another says low?!
Doctor prescribed same gel as you but don't want to take if levels are ok but having same symptoms as you the anxiety is bad but also have low mood which is just torture.
I just don't know to do🙈

Chocolatecoveredshitpig · 29/06/2023 15:20

@Essexgirl80 - I'm so sorry, it's just horrible isn't it? And GP's can be no help at all. I had my blood tests back this morning which show my ferritin level is pretty low, which can cause the symptoms I've been having, (a lot of my hair has fallen out too), so I'm going to try iron supplements and see if that helps. Apparently I also have pre diabetes, (I'm not overweight), so something else to worry about!

Hi, I'm similar.....I had hormone bloods done privately before starting hrt. My oestrodial was 1157, lh 28.2 and fsh 28.3. My gp said its OK to start hrt?? I've Bern taking 2 pumps oestrogel & on 2nd week of utrogestan. I'm concerned I shouldn't be taking hrt as i read that anything over 800 it should be avoided??? X

Pissedoffpigeon · 12/07/2023 14:27

I found the estrogen part of hrt made me feel anxious, so I was on quite a low dose for a few years 25mg , i upped it to 50mg patches recently to help with joint pain.
The progesterone part is the bit makes me sleep better and feel more calm.
Are you taking a lot of estrogen.
