Hair help!

Late 40’s, so far so good (touch wood). Hardly any symptoms but my hair has really started to become thin and fine. Any recommendations for supplements? Don’t want to go down the HRT route (yet) as I feel I don’t need it at the moment. Thanks!

Iron supplements. Proper ones. My hair was coming out in chunks and really thin around my temples.

After three months taking ferrous sulphate every other morning with a 1000mg of vit c, my hair is growing back thick and vigorous.

My ferritin was v low due to flooding. Ferritin went from 16 to 72 in that time. Still taking them, want to be over 100 to be sure.

Though I also started HRT and colleagues are telling me my skin looks fantastic, I know my breasts are no longer saggy and so inevitably it has helped my hair too.

Biotin supplements will help with hair growth too. Mine has been falling out in huge amounts and since taking biotin the hair fall as practically stopped.

Thanks. That’s really good to know. Did you get your supplements on prescription?

If you take iron, you should do it under medical guidance, unless you are just going to take a small amount from OTC vitamins. It can be dangerous to supplement in large amounts if you don't actually need it.

I've found caffeine shampoo stopped my hair shedding. I use Plantur. It took a few months to work, but now I've new hair coming in (the new hair is round 2 inches long round my hairline) and whereas I used to lose a handful every time I washed my hair, now it's about 6 strands only.

I did buy biotin but reading the research they didn't find any proof it worked.

Hello, I have had a lot of hair thinning. It's very noticeable on my scalp. Have tried Plantur with no success. Am currently trying rosemary oil, no joy so far. Bloods all normal but do take iron and multivits. Thyroid normal. Am due to have scalp biopsies but am anxious about scarring as I've lost so much hair already. My GP suggested a steroid cream. Has anyone had any success with that? I am already on hrt, definitely not helping. Sorry to have no useful suggestions.

I'd avoid steroid cream at all costs having just watched a friend go through horrific steroid cream withdrawal.

Have you had covid recently?
I last had covid July 22, my hair fell out in handfuls from October to January.

Recent hair appointment flagged up all the new regrowth, I now have a 2" halo.

Thanks, no I haven't had Covid but did have a bad reaction to my last vaccine, high temperature, quite ill for a few days. I did wonder if this could be implicated.
