Am 52, in the menopause (had FSH test) and started HRT just over 2 weeks ago, Utrogestan 100mg 1 a day, and Estradiol 0.06% gel 2 pumps per day. All was going ok but over the last few days my stomach feels swollen, I look really bloated. Anyone else had this as a side effect and do I need to alter dosage? Just wanted to ask others experiences before going back to the GP.

I was like that for the first month then it eased off. I was on a 50 patch. I've since gone up to 75 but it didn't happen again.

I think it's the shock to your hormonal system of oestrogen after so long being deficient.

I was like that initially, bloated stomach and painful boobs that were so swollen. After the first month it all settled down. X

Thank you both, I know I sound like I'm panicking, so much thought has gone in as to whether to try HRT or not, am still a bit undecided. Have had a rough ride health-wise over the last 5 years and as a result totally embraced fitness, healthy eating etc. Never had a flat stomach in my life but had managed to look pretty trim of late only to all of a sudden have a pot belly again! I feel full of air around the middle, it's really uncomfortable x

It's not a nice feeling, I felt like someone had pumped mine up with a bicycle pump and all my intestines were aching. When it settled I lost weight, had fabulous bursts of energy and no more tears. Good luck, I hope it settles quickly and you're not panicking at all it's a huge decision taking HRT. Xx

Yep mine did this for a month or too and then gradually it settled down. I still have a pot belly though. I think for a lot of women that’s sadly just part of getting older.

When I first started with Utrogestan (on 12 day regime) this happened to me. The wind/bloating was awful!
It has eased off over the months as my body has adapted to a degree but you can take it vaginally and this can reduce many side effects.
