Nuts and Seeds

I'm looking to be a bit more healthy, and have Greek yog with honey for my breakfast. I'd like to sprinkle some nuts and seeds too - are there any in particular that are better for menopausal women?

Careful with having lots of uncooked spinach though, it’s high in oxalates, rotate your greens to avoid this problem. Oxalates can decrease absorption of minerals.

I'll look that up, but it's only a small palmfull that crumbles into nothing, still food for thought - pun intended!

What does that taste like, LightsOnNow ? How many calories is it?

Yeah it’s a fairly new-ish known thing, about eating greens raw and spinach is a particularly high oxalate one. But none of it is an issue if you don’t have too much of one type of leafy green, or even seeds and nuts. Rotate it all and don’t eat too much of one thing 😊

I don't count calories, so I'm sorry I wouldn't have a clue there, I'm more into the nutrition side of it as I don't eat much meat or other iron rich sources of food. I'm also watching Omega 3 hence the other ingredients.

As for taste, it is very nice really, I use vanilla flavoured protein powder, no sweetener or sugar and that works for me.

i suggested OP swap the honey for fruit. Does honey or fruit have more antioxidants, per 100 kcal?

It's not possible to generalise about fruit. Each type of fruit has a different nutritional value. I don't think honey contains any antioxidants- it's mainly sugar and a few trace elements.
You can research whatever fruit you eat and see the nutrition.

ha! I loathe vanilla. Not as awful as coffee flavour, or maybe it is actually.
Heme iron is my goto for iron boost.
