Empty head

Does anyone else feel like they have been tipped upside down and all their knowledge and ability to hold a coherent conversation has been shaken out of them?
I feel useless at work as I just feel empty headed and have no ideas, whereas before menopause I had lots to offer.
On Everol conti patches, put nearly a stone on, anxiety worse than its ever been and had to stop driving. I just don't recognise the person I am now to how I was a couple of years ago and it's really getting me down now

I found after a few months using Oestrogel helped plus addressing healthier eating and exercise more even just walking every day for some fresh air. It’s a horrid feeling though

Doesn't sound like the conti patch is for you? Maybe try a separate increased oestrogen patch with progesterone instead?

I know the feeling re: the empty head, I've got it too. Does my head in.

Yes! I started to make real rookie mistakes at work, couldn't retain information, started to feel like I had nothing to offer. Started forgetting words. I even started to worry about early dementia (as I had no other menopause symptoms really, other than loss of periods and it didn't occur to me that I was having early menopause, I'm 41 now, I thought it was fertility issues that would be able to be fixed) but it all cleared up once I started HRT. I take a tablet rather than patches and gels and different things on different days.

IfYoureGonnaBreakMyHeart · 21/03/2023 10:26

Definitely. I felt like everything was behind frosted glass and I couldn't get to it.
Re the patches possibly you need a higher dose of the oestrogen?

I felt awful when I started HRT. I'm just at the end of month three. Went to Dr at beginning of month three, told her I was crying all the time, felt like I was on the pill, although physical things were a bit better the mental stuff wasn't.

So I've increased my patch from 50 to 75 and the difference is insane.

I am sleeping like I haven't slept probably since before I had children. And I have so much more energy and I'm not snapping. And I was very teary on the 50 patch but the emotional side feels much more on an even keel. Could you try going up a patch strength?

I was prepared to put on weight as a quid pro quo for the benefits of HRT, and I did so but it I think it was because I was eating as I was so down and sad I had no will power not the HRT itself. Although my breasts are a bit bigger and I have had some bloating which doesn't help. But it's kind of settled down now.

Just to add I've lost almost three stone since I've been on hrt. I'd gained it during my worsening symptoms but now I've got some normality back I can finally start to get healthier again.

Thank you. I've still got a ways to go but I feel very positive that I can do it. I was barely surviving before.
