Utrogestan worries

In my first month of hrt and starting utrogestan tonight..I've read lots of reviews where people have had awful side effects and am so worried about this. Particularly mood as I suffer from pmt really badly but only for a day or two of my cycle around my period. I've read some people have awful mood swings and I'm dreading this.
My peri symptoms aren't awful asides night sweats periodically and the day or two of awful pmt so I'm wondering if hrt is for me. I feel marginally better on the oestrogel but not enough to risk it

I am very post menopausal and 66 years of age recently put onto oestrogen patches and the utrogestan orally continuous use.

Six weeks into treatment I suddenly had a very heavy bleed for a good few hours ,we are talking haemorrhage type bleeding …
And the cramping and pain was horrific .

That was about four days ago. We are down to a spotting now…
I did phone a Doctor Who immediately referred me to the hospital and I go there on the 30th of May to check out what’s going on..
it was really quite shocking to me because I haven’t had a bleed for about 25years

I immediately stopped all the treatment and won’t resume again until I’ve been to the doctor. Has anybody else experienced this very dramatic response to the medication.

@Lottiesnanny Your dr ought to have warned you that bleeding up to 6 months on this type of HRT (continuous combined) is expected.

It's not necessarily Utrogestan to blame. It could happen with any type of continuous combined HRT for the first 6 months. But it's usually spotting.

What dose patch are you on? At your age and on HRT for the first time, you should have been started on the lowest patch of 25mcgs.

What are you on?

What do you mean as haemorrhage type bleeding? How many pads were you getting through? More than soaking one pad an hour is considered heavy.

It's really unlikely you have anything seriously wrong, and it's more about the dose of the estrogen. What your dr could have done (they seem to have panicked a bit TBH) is reduce the estrogen first.

Thank you for reply
i am 25mg estradot twice weekly
100 mg utrogestan every night
blissel gel 50 mg twice weekly

The doctor did tell me that I may have some spotting, but what I had was way worse than spotting actually bled through my clothes, and was wearing my granddaughters. Maternity pads 🤦‍♀️and the pain was excruciating.

hundred percent certain that there is nothing wrong , just my body adjusting to the medication. I just wondered if heavy bleeding is something that I’m going to get all the time or if it was just a one off..

It's reassuring that your dr has put you on a low dose and also is being proactive, considering that.

It's unlikely you will have this all the time - light spotting is more likely.

It would be ghastly if you had to experience this more often! It's quite unusual that you bled so much after just 6 weeks on a low dose but a scan will help.
There is the option from your GP of using 200mgs Utrogestan (even if just for a while) to control the bleeding .

Is there are specific reason why you've gone onto HRT after 25 years ? Are you still having flushes etc or is it for bone health?

Lottiesnanny · 16/05/2023 16:37

The Vaginal gel is because I have vaginal atrophy, and it really helps.
When I renewed my prescription for this and spoke to the menopause, yes, she suggested the extra HRT for bone health as osteoporosis is in my family, although I show no signs of it

Hi,
initially I was given HRT patches which were good at making me feel better but they kept falling off and my skin was red and irritated. Doc started me on 2 pumps of Oestrogel a day with one a day Utrogestan 100mg however I still get periods and it looks like I should be taking 2 tablets on days 15-26.
im on day 12 of the 1-25 days- what is the best way for me to go about changing to the 2 tablets?
should I continue of the one tablet to finish the 1-25 cycle or can I just stop for the rest of February and take 2 tablets for days 1-12 of March and each month thereafter as lots of folk say that’s the easy way to do it?
im so confused and I’ve had terrible depression which came on a few months after I changed to gel and patches. Please can anyone help?
