Can you get pmt whilst on hrt and progesterone?

I Am in my 40s and still have periods but on hrt and progesterone for peri- menopause. It’s been helpful with night sweats, and I’ve been on it for around 6-7 months. These last two weeks I have had what feels like huge mood swings, carb cravings and generally felt awful. Yesterday I had the worst mood crash. Today period or “bleed” arrived.

I’m afraid I don’t understand the biology I thought you get “bleeds” but not periods, but I have had what mirrors horrific pmt symptoms accompanied with starting a “bleed”. Does anyone understand what might be going on ? 🙏

Yes I absolutely get PMT on my hrt. It's copying the same hormones as normal cycle, so why wouldn't we? Oestrogen all the time. Second half of the month, more progesterone, then that stops and a bleed starts. That's what my hormones used to do on their own, and I always had PMT!

It may be exacerbated by the fact that you are peri menopausal so you have an underlying cycle of hormones rising and falling, slightly "at war" with the rhythm of the gel/pills or whatever you're taking. It took my cycle a year to settle into being the same as the HRT 28 day cycle.

sooo thankful for your reply🙏🙏. So my gynaecologist kept referring to “bleeds” after progesterone.

I always had pmt and the implication was it would resolve on hrt.

can I ask how you take your hormones? I struggled with progesterone so have utrogestane for ten days. Please don’t tell me this will get worse…,

Did you then stop having bad PMS?

Do you feel awful when you take the progesterone? I did I think you can be progesterone intolerant. I switched to the mariena coil. It is a much lower does and it’s straight in your womb so less pmt side affect
