Options to regulate periods at 42

I think I'm in peri as getting night sweats and periods becoming more and more irregular (21 day cycle typical but now sometimes 6 weeks) including spotting after sex and just randomly which is driving me nuts (I have health anxiety around this after complications following treatment of pre-cancerous cells and ectropy on cervix resulting in significant bleeding and A&E/hospital admission a few years ago).

My GP is a bit more relaxed than I would prefer and generally suggests the Mirena but based on my cervix issues that seems likely to cause more spotting (I think the ectropy is back but not yet diagnosed).

I never had issues with the combined pill (last on it at 29). Can I go back on it at 42? If not is there another low dose hormone treatment others recommend? I think being able to predict when I will bleed will reduce the anxiety.
