The Pill and peri

I'm mid-40s and still on the combined pill. I don't want to come off, because it's helpful to know when my periods are etc, and it suits me really well as contraception. But does this mean I won't know when I am in peri menopause?

Ah cross-posted.

I was given to understand that the oestrogen in the combined pill is much much stronger than hrt, and that is the reason we have stop the pill at 50 (as the high-ish dose of Oestrogen can lead to a slightly higher chance of developing cancer)

OP, I am 51 and had to stop the pill, no meno symptoms yet (have been off it for 6 months)

am going to take GP advice and get the coil, and I can get HRT gel if I develop symptoms

I quite like the idea of reaching 55 (when coil needs to come out) without even knowing if I got to menopause yet

allows me to pretend it’s not happening 😄 for a few more years

@Melroses thanks, I don’t really want an IUD either!

I’m on the mini pill and been on hrt patches for 9 months.
together they have helped the dry itchy skin, hair loss and hot flushes.
im 48, I’ll stay on pill till 50/51 I hope then see where I’m at .

I have to say that coming off the pill was a bit of a revelation. It had severely impacted my libido and I wasn't really aware of it. I'm a bit sad that I was on it for so long.

That's because you were on a progestin-only pill.

There are a couple of COC that use the same sort of oestrogen as hrt. Zoelly & Qlara. I am not up to date on the current thinking on them though.

I was tempted by them, only downside is you can’t take testosterone with them. My testosterone levels are on the floor without treatment, my libido would never forgive me if I gave it up!
