I’m 43 and think I’m in peri menopause. My period came two weeks early for the first time ever last month, my pelvic floor seems weaker and I’ve been getting severe anxiety and panic attacks. Also I can’t always remember words and can’t seem to spell properly…!

The anxiety begins not long after my period ends and as soon as I’ve ovulated it stops completely and I’m back to normal. Is this the normal pattern? At its peak I feel like I’m losing my mind and can’t leave the house.

the doctor is going to give me a mirena coil to try and help with the symptoms.

I would be asking for HRT. Those were my symptoms at the same age and I eventually started HRT when 44 and regretted not seeing the GP sooner.

If you can afford it, go and see a womens health physio and talk about your pelvic floor.

I've tried the mirena before so it wasn't for me, ive gone with patches and utrogestan.

Read up on the menopause board. There is so much useful information on all the symptoms you are mentioning.

Good luck!

Thank you. Did the mirena help at all or did it make things worse for you? Did you get anxiety too?

This is all new to me, going to do lots of reading, it’s a pretty disconcerting time and no one seems to talk about it in real life.

No the mirena didn't work for me at all, it hurt and made me bleed for ages. Thankfully my GP in those days was happy to whip it out when I asked.

Yes do a ton of reading. I highly recommend the davina 'menopausing' book.

I might ask for HRT then

My vision has also gone a bit weird, more floaters 🙈
