Sandrena gel

I started the gel yesterday (1.5 sachets ) to equate to my old 75 patch. The reason I've swapped, is due to the patches irritating my skin and leaving black marks.

I've just applied the gel and feel a bit spaced out, like I've had too much caffeine! Will this settle? I want it to work as my skin is really suffering from 2.5 years of patches and I hate how they look.

Thanks.

It depends what strength the gel is. It comes in 1mg and o.5 mgs sachets.

3 x 1mg is more than a 75mcg patch.

JinglingSpringbells · 18/02/2023 11:55

sorry- still as above- 1 and a half sachets but is that a 1mg sachet?

Runaround50 · 18/02/2023 12:02

@JinglingSpringbells I applied 1 and a half sachets of 1mg gel to my inner thighs.

I thought each 1mg sachet equated to 50mg? Maybe I'm wrong?

It depends on the strength. My gel is 75mg. I found it much better than the patches. Chances are if you were reacting to the patches, you weren’t absorbing the oestrogen properly anyway.

Runaround50 · 18/02/2023 12:22

@Fraaahnces yes I agree. Maybe the gel will absorb better? I may dial down to one sachet and see how that feels initially.

Time will tell if I was absorbing the patches I am sure.

@Fraaahnces I doubt your gel is 75mgs. It's 0.75mgs per squirt (Oestrogel). (that's on the packaging.)

So that is lower than a 1mgs tablet and equivalent to 25mcg patch.

2 pumps of gel is 1.5mgs = 50mcg patch.

Although Sandrena and Oestrogel are supposedly the same stuff (apart from the packaging) some women do find the same strength is absorbed differently.

Fraaahnces · 18/02/2023 19:55

Sorry, I actually had the dosage wrong.

Each pump of Oestrogel contains 0.75mg of oestradiol. (Yam-derived) Most women have between 2 & 4 pumps.

Each 1mg sachet of Sandrena contains 1mg of a different form of Oestradiol. (Synthetically-derived). It is now considered safe to have 2 sachets. (Depending on Dr.) (There are also 0.5mg sachets available, but most people use 1mg.)

Some people report that they absorb one form of gel better than the other.

My own preference was entirely due to the volume of product required and the time it took me to finish a bottle of Oesteogel compared to the Sandrena only. In Aus our prescriptions are subsidized by the government but we still pay towards them every time. I believe it is different in the UK. (Not certain.)

Hope that helps.

JinglingSpringbells · 18/02/2023 21:23

Sandrena is a body-identical form of estrogen. The ones that aren't, are the sort that start with Pre (like Premarin) and are rarely used.

In the UK, the upper limit for Oestrogel is 3 mgs (4 pumps). It could well be different in Aus @Fraaahnces At the moment, in the UK, it's just sometimes a matter of preference, with Sandrena being easier if women travel and want sachets.

@Runaround50 Have you seen this info by Louise Newson?

Thanks @JinglingSpringbells for the useful link.

I've got a choice of lenzetto or sandrena at the moment. I do know from past experiences, that the gel rushes through my body like a rocket and I'm very wired for hours ( as I was yesterday).
