I've just turned (literally) 53. I've been having fairly regular periods up until October last year.

I had a scan in September, as I'd had a period for 5 weeks in June. The scan showed a bulky uterus, probable adenomyosis, but the ovaries were normal and regular in size. I took this to mean that I wasn't menopausal, as I thought the ovaries would get smaller in size.

I had an operation at the beginning of November and had just finished bleeding.

I've not had a period since. Though I keep on getting symptoms of PMS.

A fairly new thing though is getting hot and red faced. It comes on randomly (but every day). I'm usually in a jumper and hooded blanket as I get cold, but randomly get very hot. It happens mainly at night, especially in bed, which means DH gets angry when I push the duvet on him.

I've got some HRT patches, but they are only for after 12 months of no periods (and I've repeatedly tried to contact my GP about this, even emailing them), but wondered if I could now assume that not having a period for four months means that the bleeding is gone and I could take them.

You need to be period free for 12m before starting what I presume is the continuous prescription you have. Until then you need sequential. Just ring them and ask for a phone consult.

At 53 I would guess yes this is it. Getting hot is pretty standard so don't be alarmed by it just use a lower tog duvet and tell your dh not to get angry if you're just trying to cool off. Good luck.
