Menopause at 41?

I'm on the mirena coil but have had regular 'normal' periods since I had it fitted about 7 years ago (2 years into current coil).

My periods were being a bit erratic and skipping the odd one, at the beginning of last year, and around July they stopped totally, while I was still 41.

I had been having night sweats for about 5 years which I saw the gp about and they did a blood test, but never got to the bottom of.

No other symptoms apart from maybe waking a bit in the night.

Is this menopause? And if it is, does it 'matter' that I have no symptoms, or do I need to remove my coil to check? I'm on the coil for over-production of oestrogen as well as contraception.

I'm not sure whether to go to the gp, as there's technically no problem and I feel fine.

Any advice?

It certainly sounds like it. If you started having night sweats 5 years ago, it would be young to start the perimenopause but it can happen that young. Go to a gp who has had menopause training. They may want to trial HRT. If your nights wears stop, you have your answer.

Thanks for your reply. Unsure whether to start HRT if I only have that one symptom. Guess I need to research the pros and cons a bit more. Maybe I'll wait until my coil is due out and see what's happening then! The other thing I'm wondering about if whether I need to find out if it's early menopause for my DDs sake when she's older and possibly TTCing.
