Advice sought

I’ll seek medical advice but would like some views here.

I’m 47, 48 in May. I haven’t had a period since May last year. A little bit surprised because my late mum told me she went through the menopause at 51. i get mild cramps sometimes but wouldn’t be surprised at this stage if that’s it for me.

Symptom wise, I’m not doing too bad (I think!) Slight hair loss, weight gain, a handful of very mild hot flushes.

I have a 5yo child as a single mother, so not much time to exercise and very unfit. Not too much energy, but not too bad. Feel like the spring has gone out my step and joints are definitely stiffer. Not sure how much is down to lack of exercise. Sometimes fly off the handle at my child :-( but not sure how much this is down to hormones. Sex drive has collapsed.

Would love to have more energy and some libido back but feel that overall - no flooding, not dreadful hot flushes, only mild brain fog - I should count my blessings and go with it.

i do suspect it’s crept in my gradually, what with Covid and young child, and maybe if I went on HRT I’d be surprised at the difference. Also, as an older mum I’m running with a younger crowd and would like to fit in!

Any views, advice, experience? Thank you…

I say this all the time on here so apologies to those who've read it all before but in peri (then post) we've 2 choices, either adapt lifestyle to cope with problems associated with hormone fluctuations so limit caffeine and alcohol, ensure getting piety of physical activity to promote good sleep and wellbeing. Eat well, see people, do stuff. It is so hard with poor motivation etc but in ours 40s we really have to take a positive approach to optimise health to cope with depleting hormones.

If all else fails ask for hrt but read up on it first so you are fully informed re risks and benefits.

I'm 55 and have just started HRT. I do think I tried too long on the healthy lifestyle, no alcohol, every supplement going routine! I have had horrible night time hot flashes for the last 2 months, waking every 2 hours so that gave me the push.

Thanks both!

I haven’t had any alcohol this year (yet).

Am quite overweight, so need to address that. I’m worried HRT might exacerbate it.

I'm getting a blood test on Monday to look into HRT but in the meantime I've ordered these:

2 different friends recommended them big I've only taken my first one this morning!

Thanks @nc1013 - feeI free to post again saying how you’re getting on. They look good but they’re not cheap.

I think blood tests don’t tell much at my age. The worst thing just now is maybe the stiff joints.
