I think it's time for medical help

I'm 45 years old and perimenopausal.

Over the last year or so I've noticed symptoms creeping in and gradually worsening each month. Migraines, wild mood swings, uncontrollable anger switching to absolute despair and depression. Periods are still fairly regular but much heavier and shorter now.

It's the migraine and anger that concerns me the most. Migraine because it's so draining and is starting to impact being able to work. Anger because its affecting my family. I'm so scared that I will end up saying or even doing something that I won't be able to apologise for.

Is this a menopause thing and would something like hrt help?

Possibly, or it could be something else. Either way, time to see the GP.

Bonbon21 · 26/01/2023 13:20

Please see your GP a s a p..
I put up with those symptoms for over a decade and was practically on my knees... and a total bitch to live with?
2 months on hrt and I am human again..
Relaxed, calm...sleeping well and my sense of me has returned..
Please make an appointment....

With me it was night sweats (like waking up in a bath full of cold water) and the rage.

The HRT really helped. I sleep better, I get far fewer tremendous rages, less anxious - and the migraines have settled down to the occasional one every now and then (and probably red wine and cheese related rather than hormones now...)

I’m 51 and have had this for several years now. I am seeing my gp tomorrow to talk about HRT, despite my fears about breast cancer, which is in the family. I really can’t cope any more without some help. So I sympathise, and hope we are both feeling much better soon.

I rang the surgery and they had literally just had a cancellation so I was able to get in to see the practice nurse. 😲

She was amazing and said that I would likely benefit from HRT but has referred me for blood tests to check liver/thyroid/kidney functions as well s vitamin, iron and hormone levels just to rule out any other underlying issues that could also be affecting me.

Think about a Mirena coil. That alone reduced my rages, and it will be the progesterone part of HRT. And it should massively help your heavy periods.

Great update!
Hope all goes well and you get the help you need!
